Muscular Dystrophy is a hereditary disease in which the skeletal muscles degenerate and weaken. It primarily affect the muscles attached to the shoulder girdle and pelvic girdle. Muscular Dystrophy can also spread to all of the muscles of the body.



Different Forms of Muscular Dystrophy :

  1. Duchenne - is the most common and appears in boys from ages 3-5.
  2. Limb girdle - this primarily affect the muscles of the arms, shoulders, legs and hips. This form of MD start in the later childhood years and progress more slowly than Duchenne, but otherwise similar.
  3. Fascioscapulo humeral dystrophy - is marked by the deterioration of the muscles of the face, shoulders and upper arms. It begins in the adolescense and cam affect both male and female.

Symptoms of Muscular Dystrophy :

  1. Lordosis - abnormal curvature of the spine
  2. Weakening of the legs and back muscles
  3. Difficulty in walking
  4. Frequent falling
  5. Difficulty climbing stairs
  6. Eventually the patient is confined in the wheelchair.

Causes of Muscular Dystrophy :

  • Hereditary with the exception of a type which occurs between the ages of 35 to 50.
  • Improper diet

Recommended Treatments for Muscular Dystrophy : Take the most nutritious diet consisting of;

  • whole grains and cereals
  • food rich in amino acids (aloe vera is rich in all amino acids)
  • vegetable oils
  • Vitamins E, A, C, B1, B6, B12 and multi-minerals.

If the degenerative problem has not progressed very much, the intake of Vitamin E will help impede it. This vitamin is found in large amounts in whole wheat and sprouts.

Other Recommended Supplements, Vitamins and Minerals : Royal jelly, Bee pollen, Omega-3, Fruit Juices, Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Selenium, Germanium, B Complex, Vitamin K, Inositol, Choline
