Mustang Tripper Seat Review

Stock Harley seats are about as comfortable as a colonoscopy if you ask me. Knowing this, it's no surprise that many new Harley Davidson owners replace the seats on their motorcycles within just a few weeks of purchasing their new motorcycle. I know I did, in fact, I have tried several seats on my Harley Davidson and I might have found my favorite.

Mustang Harley Seats

Mustang has been building motorcycle seats for years, since 1980 in fact and what was once a small company, has blossomed into a giant in the industry. Mustang has developed such a good reputation for their products that they are probably the top company in the business today.

I first ran across a Mustang seat years ago, back in the mid 90's when I was searching for a replacement seat that would make riding my Vulcan Classic more enjoyable. The stock seat was pretty close to a torture device and I would have to stop just about once an hour in order to restore blood to my buttocks and legs. I would routinely experience leg numbness and butt pain that would border on excruciating.

Asking around, nearly everyone pointed me to a Mustang saddle. They were so widely recommended that it almost seemed odd. I purchased one and installed it right in the dealer parking lot and left the stock saddle at the dealership. I knew that no matter what, the new saddle couldn't possibly be any worse than that thing. Good riddance.

I've been a fan of Mustang seats ever since.

Mustang Tripper Seat Review

Fast forward some 15 years and the bike has changed to a 2007 Harley Davidson Nightrain. I have been running a seat from LePera that was not very comfortable. It looked GREAT but was horribly uncomfortable and wasn't what I was looking for from my motorcycle seat. I had purchased it for the look, it matched my bike well and gave it just the right look that i wanted and in that regard, it did a great job. Just not comfortable enough to ride.

I came across a relatively new seat from Mustang called the Mustang Tripper. You can get the Tripper in a one piece form that is the Daytripper or you can buy the Tripper Solo and add a pillion seat if you want to ride two up. I elected to go with the latter as I typically ride solo but might occasionally want to ride a passenger.

The Mustang Tripper solo seat features very similar lines to the LePera Solo seat, so I liked it already from a looks standpoint. In fact, I actually like the looks of it even better than the LePera Bare bones. They are both a vinyl seating surface but the Mustang has a rougher, textured finish while the LePera has a glistening smooth surface that just looks cheap in my opinion.

So from a looks standpoint...the Mustang Tripper gets an A. It is a sweet looking seat for someone who wants a low slung, sleek looking Harley seat.

Mustang Tripper Comfort

Looks are a part of the equation but they aren't everything. The real test is in the comfort and how it rides, after all, I was replacing the great looking LePera seat because it was uncomfortable. The first thing i did after putting on the Mustang Tripper solo seat was head out for about a 20 mile ride. Now i know what you are thinking, 20 miles is NOTHING but bear in mind I am at Myrtle Beach bike week. So 20 miles is a long time in the saddle when you are in bike week traffic.

The Mustang Tripper passed the comfort test hands down. This thing was infinitely more comfortable than the LePere seat and did not inflict any numbness or tingling in my nether regions at all. I have since logged a few hundred miles on the Mustang Tripper and the comfort only seems to be getting better as I get used to the seat or it gets used my butt....maybe both.

Mustang Tripper Review Summary

So to summarize my experience with the Mustang Tripper Harley seat so far, I love it. I am glad I purchased it for a number of reasons. I have a much more comfortable seat that makes riding fun again and allows me to stay in the saddle for longer periods of time. I also don't think I lost anything in the looks department. In fact, I think the Tripper is a better fit for my bike than the LePera was.

If you are considering the Mustang Tripper for your motorcycle then you can check out more Mustang Tripper Reviews here and even find some excellent deals on the Tripper. I can tell you that I paid full price at the show, but you can find Mustang Tripper Harley seats on Ebay for 2/3 of the price I paid.  If the Tripper isn't your cup of tea, then you can find a number of other Harley Seat Reviews site. In any event, no matter where you buy one, please let us know what you think of it after you do.

Personally I have never experienced a Mustang Seat even though reviews such as yours are common. The Corbin Saddle is also worthy of accolades as its form fitting design will adhere to your shape over time. For every HD I have ever had the first thing to go was the saddle. Off with the OEM on with the Corbin. Just another view...
