This year, I plan to be more educated than the last year. I think that a person who loves to write must have an idea of what the classics are and who's who among the authors. So I searched the internet and found the books that made a name for themselves.

Anne Of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery - to start of, I finished reading this one just recently, I like it. It is a children's book but I love it all the same.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte - when I was in my teens, I had the chance to read this book. For some reason it was in my bookshelf, all dirty and tattered. In my despair of not being able to afford a book to read, I grab this and went on reading.

Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy - well, I am on the first chapter. I need to get a grasp of the book and taste the pages so I will know why it is on the top 10 list of the best reads.

Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert - I downloaded the ebook but somehow reading it in my computer doesn't appeal to me. I need to taste the pages. Go back and forth if I miss something. Lie down, sit and read it before I sleep. I'm still bidding on it

The Tenant Of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte - Why not make it a complete set of the Bronte sister's? Did I tell you that the book I purchased on ebay says, Bronte Sisters Complete Unabridge. Whatever unabridge means.

Jane Eyre By Charlotte Bronte - it would be unfair not to know the other Bronte sister so I will have to read her. She is also on the list of the best reads so we'll see. She's on her way to me.

The French Lieutenant's Woman by John Fowles - I heard it's good and I found the hard cover on sale for $1.15, who would not be tempted?

Sleeping Arrangements by Laura Shaine Cunningham - I found it on sale, too. And the back cover says, "A beautiful story that I will cherish for years to come", -HARPER LEE. I think she is the same author of,"To Kill A Mockingbird."

Good luck with your reading list, Sheena! I generally buy classics and then they collect dust on my bookshelf because I reach for the shiny, new books instead. :) I have read Jane Eyre though, and I loved it. Two other classic favorites of mine are Pride and Prejudice and A Tale of Two Cities. In answer to your question, unabridged means it's the full, uncut version of the book. Many classics are abridged to cater to our time-starved, attention-deficient society. :)

Another book I would recommend, even though it isn't officially a classic, is Illusions by Richard Bach. It is a VERY quick read with a wonderful message. I also really liked Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier, which is a classic novel that was published in the 30s. The reprint from the 90s makes it look like a trashy romance novel, but it's so much more than that! And I agree with mike the salesman about 1984 and To Kill a Mockingbird.

If you make it through all these books, let me know what you think of them.

Happy reading!

Foxility :) your welcome to do so however you can add some more if you have grabbed something more on your list.

Mike the Salesman :) Thanks Mike! I was actually looking for the reviews on 1984 yesterday in goodreads.com and decided to put it on next year including catch-22 and the catcher in the rye. I have read, "To Kill A Mockingbird" in 2005 and reread it again in the last quarter of 2008. Like Wuthering Heights, I didnt know it was a classic when I first read it. :)

Melissa G :) It's good to see you again, pretty! I love that picture of you looking out into the sky with a smile on your face with a thankful heart.

I hate it when I buy a book and spend my time reading it and it wasn't worth my time. The classics has been there and so I think they are worth it. I have that reprint of A Tale Of Two Cities but I have to admit that I only went past a couple of pages and decided not to go through it. I cannot understand it. It is a shame for me to say that because a lot of people like it. I also have 100 years of solitude and I feel the same so I dropped it down. Rebecca, I have read some of the reviews but now that you mentioned it, I will certainly look for the copy.

I was shopping on ebay for Illusions by Richard Back since I read one of your hub and decided to buy my own copy here in the Philippines since it's easy to find. I was intrigue when I read it in your hub, so once I get the copy, I owe it to you for the recommendation. :)

Thank you.

Thanks, Sheena! It took me a while to get into A Tale of Two Cities, so I can understand why you passed on that one. A friend gave me One Hundred Years of Solitude in college, and I've had a hard time getting into it also. I've had it for 7 years and I still haven't made it through the first chapter!

I hope you enjoy Illusions! I think you will. :) Rebecca also, I read that when I was much younger and it has stuck with me through the years as one of my favorite books.

Thanks for this hub, it reminded me why I love reading so much. :)

Dang! Your sending me off to ebay this minute for Rebecca. Hahahaha. I am addicted to books. I would gladly exchange my hardbounds for the classic. A good read is always worth it.

When I was a kid, books had taught me lessons in life. They are my earthly positions. :)

Love Anna Karenina - always have this soft spot for the tragic heroines...

Anyways, I'm off - need to catch up on sleep! I just thought I'd say hi and check out on how everything's going with a favourite hubber! (wink)

I add my encouragement to Melissa's about Rebecca.  In fact, I'm going to run out to get the book myself, since I've never read it.  Just the other night I caught the Alfred Hitchcock 1940 movie with Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, and Judith Anderson and I was spellbound.

Another you might want to put on your list is Victor Hugo's Les Misérables.  I read it when I was quite young, and it took forever to get through, but the story and characters have stayed with me all of my life.  Maybe you want to add this one to your 2010 list, but put a lot of space between it and Anna Karenina!

Thanks for sharing.

Great list. I've read about half of them, but I've never read "Anna Karenina". I'm going to have to go get this one!

Sally's Trove :) I've been hunting for a good copy of Rebecca. And I had to drop Anna Karenina for a while and start with Sleeping Arrangements. I need a full focus on Anna Karenina. Oh, Les Miserables! I might not be able to digest that one but I will see. thanks Sally :)

k@ri :) I see you're all around my hub? L.O.L My list are very girly I shoud have included catcher in the rye and catch-22 but I decided to put it off for next year. thanks k@ri! :)
