My Chemical Romance is emo?

Many things and people are unfairly stereotyped, one of which is My Chemical Romance. In case you don't know, My Chemical Romance is an alternative rock band, with some other genres thrown in. Now, if you were to go around to random people, and ask them about My Chemical Romance, you would surely get at least some people who would call them emo, and probably tossing an insult before or after the word "emo."

First of all, there isn't anything bad about emo, society has just maniacally twisted everything around to make it bad and frowned upon. Emo means emotional. Emo doesn't mean "cutting" or "suicide" or anything else that is commonly heard to go with emo. This is the first problem, and one of the reasons why people who have never listend to My Chemical Romance hate them.

Getting past what emo means, and what people translate it to, is how My Chemical Romance gets dragged into this. I believe there is almost a process of how this happens. First, you get the people who start stereotyping. You get the kids who are suicidal and cut themselves mixed in with anyone "emotional," and get "emo" to be bad and freaky, and no longer what it originally meant. Then, you suck both people into the same category. You get suicidal people to be "emotional," and you get the "emotional" people to be suicidal. Once people get this idea into their heads, they start spreading the word "emo" into anything those people like, one being My Chemical Romance. Now, because of the first people being stereotyped, My Chemical Romance has become a horrid band, full of suicide, wrist-cutting, and everything else bad that comes with "emo," all because they are liked by the stereotyped kids.

After all of that comes, people who haven't been stereotyped as "emo" and who listen to My Chemical Romance are now emo. So, now that they are emo, everything they do, like, eat, speak, hear, see, and everything else is also emo. Now that the new addition of people are added to "emo," My Chemical Romance is even more emo.

This goes for many things, and many bands. Yes, some people just don't prefer that style of music or whatever their reason, but why people stereotype them as emo is stupid. My Chemical Romance's songs talk about the same things as rapper's songs. All My Chemical Romance does is make the beat of the song go with the words to make it sound better. My Chemical Romance does talk about suicide. They don't constantly say "We're gonna kill ourselves." Although the song "Beatiful Girls" or whatever it calls says the word "Suicidal," that song isn't labled as "emo," because more people like that kind of music.

In other words, the word "emo" is being spread worse than a disease, and for the wrong reasons. I only wish I could see the day that people can finally grow up and see that people have opinions, and that they can like whatever they like. I also wish I could see the day that people stop getting stereotyped for all the wrong reasons. Then again, it's only a wish.
