Much research has tracked the original property to the " Hawksbill Patent", owned by Peter Ruffner prior to 1775, which he obtained through his father-in-law, Steinman, who owned a large estate on the Hawksbill Creek. Emanuel Ruffner son of Reben, moved to the location of my childhood home in 1785. It is believed his is the one responsible for the original construction of logs and covered with frames. The massive chimney along the west wall, which covered 4 fire places in an equal number of rooms, two upper and two lower. In 1805 Ulrich Biedler and wife, from Germany, acquired the property in what was then known as Dunmore County Virginia. Three to five miles north of Luray Va. Later known as Shenandoah county, now Page county. The property stretched into the Marksville district. Mr. Biedler resided there until his death and son Lester took over. It was during this time that the porch was extended for a wrap around effect and the back wing was added. In 1946, 200 acreas of the property and house were sold to M.A.Zenobia from New Jersey. My father took over the farming operation and resided in a two story frame house that was called the tenant house. My mother told horror stories of how it had once housed chickens and everyone got lice. Being the worker she was, she rid the infestation and made a nice home. They couldn't have been there long because by the time my sister was born there are baby pictures in front of the massive chimney. Mother took in old people, after the three oldest were married. She ran a Bed and Breakfast for a short time, during the 1980's In 1975, after my father's death, my mother purchased the house and adjoining 5 acres. Since then the surrounding property has been divided and sub divided and developed into a farming suburb.
