The 70's Bands That Rocked Me

Like everything else in life, things change including music. Oh, but the sounds of the 70's bring back so many wonderful memories for me. Although I was only pre-teen and maybe younger when most of these songs came out, I could enjoy listening to them, thanks to my older sister who is eight-years older than me. There are many classic rock bands of the 70's that I grew up listening too. I have only chosen a few that bring back memories of firsts in my life. First kiss, first concert, first.....Well, you get the picture.

I did not have any one particular favorite so they are listed in alphabetical order. I have included all the videos, because I enjoyed looking at all the styles back then. I enjoyed seeing the performers perform their songs. I enjoyed looking at the clothes, make up and hair styles of the bands, and I wanted to share the memories. I hope you enjoy.

Bachman Turner Overdrive

I was and still am a big fan of Bachman Turner Overdrive aka BTO. BTO had a few hits in the 70's. The most memorable for me is, "Taking Care of Business", "Roll on Down the Highway", "Hey You", and of course the one that always makes me smile like a chesire cat, "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet."

B.T.O 1974

The Eagles

I had so many favorites when it came to the Eagles, they had so many hits, “Take It Easy.”,“Witchy Woman”, "Already Gone", “The Best of My Love”, “New Kid in Town”, “Heartache Tonight”. For some reason "Hotel California" sticks in my mind for uniqueness.

The Eagles 1976

Led Zeppelin

With Led Zeppelin I did have a favorite album and favorite tune. The Album was the untitled 4th for Led Zeppelin, which included great songs like, "Black Dog", "Rock-N-Roll", "Going to California", "When the Levee Breaks", and of course my all time favorite Led Zeppelin tune, "Stairway to Heaven".

Led Zeppelin 1971

Nazareth

This Band came out with a few hits in the 70's. My personal favorites was on their 1975 Album, "Hair of The Dog." which included, "Love Hurts", and "Hair of The Dog, aka Son of a Bitch." I was fortunate enough to meet the band in the late 1980's while I was a waitress at a local truck stop. I was working third shift and got really excited when I saw their tour bus pull into the parking lot. I had fun serving them and they were my first band that I ever got to meet personally and get their autographs.

Nazareth Band 1975

Queen

Queen gave us some great music in the 70's. There are three that are the most memorable for me, "Somebody to Love", "Fat Bottomed Girls", and my favorite "Bohemian Rhapsody." I think this band had such unique songs that make them stand out in my mind.

Queen 1975

Ram Jam

Although Ram Jam produced many songs in the 70's, the only one that sticks to my mind that rocked me was a catchy tune called, "Black Betty."

Ram Jam 1977

Rush

Rush was one of my favorites. The lead singer Geddy Lee's voice definitely got my attention. I had two favorite Rush songs from the 70's that bring a smile to my face are, "Working Man", "Fly by Night,"

Rush 1975

Steve Miller Band

The Steve Miller Band gave us a lot of greats to rock to in the 70's, including hits like, "Fly Like An Eagle", "Jet Airliner", "Take The Money and Run", "Jungle Love" and of course the one song that I know the words by heart, "The Joker." I cannot pick a favorite song in this collection, they all put a smile on my face and kept me rocking.

Steve Miller Band 1973

Sweet

I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to include Kiss or Sweet in this hub. After carefully thinking about both great 70's bands Sweet won out over Kiss in my mind. I based my decision on which songs brought a happy thought from the past to my mind. I can't help but smile when I hear, "Little Willy", "Fox On The Run", and "Ballroom Blitz."

Sweet 1973

Van Halen

Last but certainly not least, I have Van Halen. I can't think of any of their songs I did not enjoy. I was a die hard fan when it came to Van Halen, or should I say I was a die hard fan when it came to David Lee Roth aka Diamond Dave. I could not get enough Van Halen. They were the very first band that I saw in concert. I received my very first kiss on my very first crush with a Van Halen song playing in the background. I had David Lee Roth posters plastered all over my bedroom walls when I was a teen. I did not have to become a groupie though, because my first fiance was a David Lee Roth look a like. Yes, you could say that I liked Van Halen a little bit, she says with a wink.

Van Halen 1978

Hi Whikat ,enjoyed the hub thoroughly . As a preteen and teenager In the 1970s I had always enjoyed all these bands . I was lucky enough to see Led Zeppelin In the late 70s In Los Angeles where I grew up . I knew they were good , and I had been listening to them for a long time . However I at that time had no Idea they would be the Icons they are . And " Fox On the run " was my favorite Sweet song . It kicked ass !

Well done Whikat. I love the 70s a bit too. ;)

I bet this hub would work equally well if you placed an Amazon capsule and filled in descriptions of these albums or of the song(s) you like from them.

Hi GeneriqueMedia, it is always a pleasure to see you. Thanks for the compliments. I have thought about using an Amazon capsule, but have not had too much luck with Amazon. Hmm, maybe I will think about it some more. Thanks for visiting and your kind comment. :-)

No discussion about 70's rock is complete without The Eagles' Hotel California.

Best. Song. Ever (after Charlie Daniels Band "Devil went down to Georgia")

Hello discostu, It is very nice to meet you. I love "Devil went down to Georgia" I would have included it here, but I think that is considered country. My youngest son knew the words by heart at the age of 8, I guess we played it a lot. :-) Thanks for visiting and your comment.

"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold ... and she's buying a stairway to heaven ... when she gets there ... "

Oops, sorry I got carried away! You know, Whicat, when I watched the final stages of the Beijing olympics, the farewell theme started getting familiar ... a white haired gentleman was playing lead guitar ... and suddenly ... in one instant I recognized the tune ... and that gentleman!

It was Jimmy Page! What a pleseant surprise, after all these years!

Led Zep was one of my favorites. Sure! But ... How come you have left out the ROLLING STONES, Jethro Tull, Steppenwolf, Three Dog Nite, Chicago ... ?

Whikat profile image

Whikat  says:

Hey Quicksand. Thanks for visiting and your great comment. How cool to see Jimmy Page! Yes, I know I left out a lot of great bands. I might have to add them in a little at a time. :-) I just covered the bands that brought back some really great personal memories for me. Thanks for visiting and your thoughts. :-)
