My Favorite Party Game

My favorite game of all time has to be Balderdash. If you have never heard of it, join the club. I just heard of it last week when I went to my brother's house and he had it there. We played until 2 am and if not for my severe sleep deprivation I could have played for hours more.

Balderdash is a word bluffing game. The game starts off with the selection of the "dasher." This is the person in charge of that particular round of words. The dasher picks from a deck of cards. On the picked card is a very obscure word that most people don't know the meaning of. On the back of the card is the definition. The dasher must write down the definition of the word on a piece of paper. The rest of the group must write down what they think is the definition of the word. Keep in mind that most people have never heard of these words so the object is to bluff your definition so that it is believed by the rest of the group to be the actual definition.

All pieces of paper are submitted to the dasher and the dasher compiles them and starts to read all of the "definitions" to the group. Each person then votes individually on which definition he/she believes is the real one. Keep in mind that the real definition is also read but the group does not know which one that is.

The person who gets the most votes for their definition collects points and moves forward on the board. The game is a lot of fun because of the wide variety of definitions that people make up for a single word. It is very funny. This game is fun also for teens. My two teenage boys were very good at this game and was surprising to me how they applied logic to words they have never heard of.

I highly recommend this game to anyone with a large group of people. I would suggest at least 6 people play this game but it is also good up to 8 or 10 people.
