My Favorite Things for March 12, 2009
55Oprah gives them away for free. Entertainment Weekly shoves 10 in the faces of its subscribers every week. I'm pretty sure even Oscar the Grouch has some that he doesn't air out in public. Hey pervert, I'm talking about favorite things. Every once in a while, I discover some fun stuff that I want to share with others. Since I have no friends, which is why I'm typing right not instead of playing disc golf like every other normal 26-year old, I decided to post some of my discoveries on here. Lucky you.
1) Sporcle.com. This one comes with a warning: DO NOT VISIT IF YOU HAVE AN ADDICTIVE PERSONALITY. This is not your little sister's quiz website (unless your name is Chris, Pat, Mike, Theresa, Colleen, Cathy, or Eddie), it's serious business. It's a great mix of educational and mindless entertainment. Can you name all 44 presidents of the United States? How about AFI's Top 100 Movies? There's something for everyone on this website. I've already devoted days of my life to trying to name every country in the world. Go ahead, get addicted.
2) The Public Enemies trailer. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in a movie about American gangsters in the 1930's? I mean, come on. Of course, I'd watch Johnny Depp sit and drink water for hours, but the movie actually looks interesting. Plus, he makes pretty astute choices when selecting scripts. I can't even do it justice, so check it out for yourself.
3) The University of North Carolina's 79/71 victory over Duke in men's basketball this past Sunday. Tyler Hansbrough is a phenomenal player, and actually stuck around for 4-years of college, which makes him a great example to other college athletes. He is also the ACC's first four-time first-team All America. Not too shabby. He's not the only badass on the team, either. Ty Lawson was just named ACC Player of the Year. What's up now, dookies? This victory just gets me even more jazzed up (yeah, I said it) for March Madness.
4) Mike on The Biggest Loser. That kid is just adorable. He showed what a sweetheart he really is when he gave Aubrey, a mother of 5, his prize of free groceries for a year. Too bad he's on a drama-filled team that wasted their 24 hours of luxury on fried food and tequila shots. I think Filipe was right to get mad at Jillian for not working out with him, but all of the adults set a bad example for little Mikey on their Losers Gone Wild night out.
5) Important Things with Demetri Martin on Comedy Central. I had seen his stand-up a few times and I kept telling my friends about the hilarious comedian who "draws pictures." I was ecstatic to hear he was getting his own show. It's been on for a few weeks now, and I dig it. It's a combination of jokes, skits, and drawings. Really funny stuff. I might be in love. Check it out on Wednesday nights at 10:30 on Comedy Central.
