A Western Life

Spirit of the American West
Spirit of the American West

Enthralled

I went to the library one day, looking for something new to read. I had had enough of text books and just wanted to relax after finals, with something new and exciting. I love all kinds of reads, and could not decide on what to get. The girls and I headed down to the Goodwill store later that afternoon, and I was drawn to the book section. There I found 2 books that caught my eyes. I don't know what it was that had drawn me to the books, maybe it was the gorgeous hunks plastered on the front, lol. I love Western movies, the classics. I am a huge John Wayne fan too, and after reading the backs of the books, I knew they would be just what I needed to get away from the stress of studying biology. When it comes to reading, sometimes I'll pick up something that doesn't look at all interesting, and be completely surprised by it. And so, in one weekend, I sat and read both books, and by Monday I was headed to the library. The girls of Primrose Creek had me hooked. Being a single mom who struggles, I connected very well with Bridget McQuarry. Bridget was a widow of the Civil War. She picked up with her sister Skye and her son , away from the carnage in Virginia and heads for her family's acerage in Nevada. Following her though, was the best friend of her deceased husband, Trace Qualthrough. Trace had made a promise to his friend to watch over and take care of his wife and child. The old home is falling apart. So Bridget gets to work at restoring it. Always there to lend a hand is Trace. But deep inside, Bridget blames Trace for the death of her husband Mitch, and despises his presence. But Trace made a promise and lets nothing stand in the way of his fulfilling it. Bridget is stubborn and hard to deal with. Restoring the old place is rough. Bridget and Skye work their fingers to the bone. Trace is there though working just as hard, and not only does he soften the load, he eventually softens the hatred in Bridget's heart. This is a love story, and a great one. It left me wanting more, yearning to learn the rest of the story, the stories of the remaining sisters and their quest to Primrose Creek. The second book was the story of Skye, though out of sequence, it didn't matter. I had found these treasures at the Goodwill store, and was wondering, after reading them, how someone could let them go. I will leave you to this series, with a warning: you won't want to put them down. You will want more. You will find yourself a member of this family. Seriously.

The Women of Primrose Creek Series A Timeline

Bridget (May 2000)

Christy (June 2000)

Skye (July 2000)

Megan (August 2000)

*And then the story jumps to present day, 2003. As a descendant of Bridget and Trace Qualthrough forges on, in the pursuit of maintaining the heritage of the great Nevada land, Chance Qualthrough has a chance meeting with a woman who steals his heart. Hallie Royer and her small twin daughters are running from a horrible secret concerning the death of her wonderful step-father and must stay hidden from someone and something terrible. But when she breaks down just inside of Primrose Creek, she is forced to stay put. With the help of Chance, she attains a job and a home for the time being. For the safety of herself, her children, and for Chance though, she knows that she cannot stay. The love and romance leading up to the revelation of Hallie's secret brings back memories to you heart of the stories of the former McQuarry girls. And the stubborness and strength of Chance Qualthrough matches that of his descendant Trace. When the people of Primrose Creek come together to protect one of their own, of which Hallie becomes once she has stolen the heart of Chance, you will cheer with heartfelt tears. Again, you are left with wanting more. At least I was.

And you will go from one to another. Linda is AWESOME, and I just got a newsletter from her site today introducing the sale of her new series beginning tomorrow. ENJOY!

Thanks AEvans. I got one of the new ones last week and am going nuts wanting a minute to start on it. But I'll need more than a minute, because I know that once I start, I can't put them down. I'll pick up the second one soon as I can get into the book store.

I'm just missing reading lately. I have the first of her new series sitting here and have only had the time to get through the first chapter. I can't believe I haven't finished all 3 yet. When things slow down, I've got to get the other 2 and hunker in for a few days of reading. Going to be hard once the baby gets here.
