My House Was Robbed While We Were Sleeping

gotcha!
gotcha!
hey!
hey!

I woke up one morning to sound of my neighbors making a fuzz over the house that was facing mine. I saw faces of curiosity while they were still on their pajamas and bathrobes. I was listening to their conversation as a third party and never even bothered to join them. I heard that they were robbed last night while they were sleeping. The robber came in from the window, took some personal stuff like jeans and shoes and emptied their wallets which they found scattered on the floor.

I went through my normal day like the usual, sit in front of my computer with my coffee and cigarette while reading my emails. As a new hubber, I busied myself trying to understand Adsense which until now, I haven't gone that far. I continued working on my computer, had my lunch and let my son play his games on line while I rest my eyes. I went to get some money from the bank because in a few days it's going to be my sons birthday and my mom. I was planning to give them a small party. By the end of the day, I totally forgot the robbery that happened in my subdivision.

I went to sleep at around 1:00am while my brother was working on the computer. I woke up at around 2:00am to use the bathroom and saw that my brother was still awake, probably working on his downloads. At exactly 6:13am, my eight year old son woke me and said, "Mom, why is our television set missing?".My reaction was a "What?" face with the word. I got up and saw it wasn't really where it's suppose to be so I went and knock at my brothers bedroom door thinking he might have used it in his room, maybe he wanted a bigger screen since he has a televesion in his room. When I opened the door, it wasn't there. I checked the kitchen thinking maybe it's there. It was silly, now when I think about it, how can it be in our kitchen. Then, I saw my wallet in the sink, the money gone. It was then that I saw my bags were scattered all over the living room and in the kitchen.

I knocked at one of my neighbors door and told them we were robbed last night. The robber made a passage thru the window and use it as his exit as well with all the stuff he took. My brother's shoes, cellphone, money and our television. I was wondering why he didn't take our sound system and my computer but I am grateful. He went inside our bedroom while we were sleeping because he took my bag from there.

Our neighbors were now gathered outside my house and now I am the victim, no longer a third party. I went to file a police report accompanied by my neighbor. We had to use his vehicle because the robber didn't leave me some money. The police system in my country is a lame excuse of men in uniform. There's no hope there. Now, everyone is vigilant because it looks like the robber is going to strike again. We were alarmed. It's a good thing, none of us were awaken during this robbery happened because it might end tragically into a massacre rather than a simple motive of robbery.

If he get's caught the next time he strikes, I'm not sure I am allowed to use the word my neighbors used, it's about skinning the pig alive.

Oh my! that's got to be a spooky feeling; knowing someone was in your house while you were asleep. I've been scared in a similar manner, and am glad you all are ok. I hope they catch the ones who did it, I've read that some thieves get a real high on being in the house while people are asleep, how scarey!!

My husband, a retired cop, put strong sticks in all our windows so they couldn't be raised. Hope you stay safe!!

Hi marisue!

Yeah, It was. I was kinda shaky when I knocked on my neighbors door. The thought that somebody was inside my bedroom while we were sleeping and with my son really scared me. I really hope he gets caught. Thanks for your post

Sincerely,

Sheena

I got chills down my spine from reading this. I'm sorry you had to go through such an invasive and unsettling experience, but I'm glad nobody was hurt! I wonder--if people understood the karmic consequences of their actions, would they make such foolish and disrespectful choices?

I was robbed but thankfully not while I was home. That would be scary waking up to all that. I can't believe someone would do that while people are home. I hope he is caught! Maybe you should start a neighborhood watch and keep a look out for any suspicious people.

Robbery can be a scary thing. We had several of those in our neighborhood a couple of months ago. We had to warn everyone to make sure to lock all their windows and doors every night. Glad you are safe. Take care...

Hey compu-smart,Melissa G , izettl, ripplemaker and Bob Ewing!

Forgive me for not being able to respond to you all one by one. I am new here and I always forget that I have to reply first before approving the rest who posted. Or I might be wrong at that. I'll find out soon. I wanna say thank you all to the support. Yehey! Yehey! hehehe

The robber hasn't come back yet but we are still vigilant. We added safety measures to our houses. Maybe, he is waiting for us the situation to get cold. More than the support you give to my hub, I wanna say thank you for the concern. I can't believe I actually felt comforted.

Cheers Hubbers,

sheena

Hi Sheena, got your email. I replied to it already but I don't know if you got it. Kindly check if it is in your spam folder. :) Hey, there is no written rule about replying to people's post before approving them. If you go around other hubs some do not reply, some do like me (which sometimes take days if I'm busy.) LOL Hope this helps. Take care... :)

Thanks for telling your traumatizing story; I believe that these are the stories that can help others prevent such occurrences in their own lives. I'm sorry that police weren't of help.

What a sickening feeling. We were robbed a couple of days ago, and I was also home when it happened. Scary thing is that it was daytime. I thought I misplaced a couple of powertools I was using in the kitchen, but they are just gone. Lots of things from the garage are gone too. Like you, my local police aren't much help and they told us we will most likely never recover anything they took. I'm thankful that I was apparently upstairs in my office when it happened. If I had been in the kitchen when they came in, it could have been really bad. It does make a person want to just move, though.

Sheena, I am so sorry this happened to your neighbor and to you. I see this hub was written awhile back. Any updates?

There is nothing quite so unsettling as realizing someone has violated your home. It's not about the belongings or money they took -- it's that they took your sense of security. Our homes are supposed to be fortresses for our families.

It also totally sucks when the police don't give a crap. Same here. We had someone attempt to break into our house while we were doing renovations (before we moved in). I had to coerce the (very young -- looked to be about 12) cop they sent out to even dust for fingerprints. He told me not to get my hopes up, that it would take at least 6-9 months for them to even process the prints. Yeah, whatever, dude.

I'm beginning to pay more attention to those Brinks Security ads on TV that tell you to put your security alarm on even when you are home. That way if anyone tries to break in, the alarm goes off. Neighborhood watch groups are also popular here in the states. Any possibility of getting one going where you are?

P.S. In spite of everything, I do hope your son and your mom had a nice birthday! MM

This is a very frightening story. To think that some criminal was creeping around your house while you were in it! Thank God that you all were not hurt. I'm sure such a terrible thing leaves you feeling very vulnerable.
