Black Eyed Peas - My Humps (With Lyrics)

So misunderstood...

Search Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps" on Google and it doesn't take very long to find someone saying it falls on their top ten list of worst song lyrics ever.  I can't fully love a song unless I love that songs' lyrics.  I admit half the time I can't understand the real lyrics, so I have to check them out on the internet.  Sometimes I am disappointed because the song isn't what I thought it was about (reminiscent of Mia Carruthers on MTV's Taking the Stage..."is love a lie?" soooo 18♥). Other times I am pleasantly surprised...

"My Humps" might fool you by including words like "hump" "ass" and "breasts" in its lyrics.  Or, you might mistake "brothers" for "f***ers"  in the first verse and judge it more harshly.  But if you read the words in context you realize that this song is about NOT having sex with guys.  This song is coming from a woman that respects herself.  If you understand the song, you understand it is an empowering song for a woman.

"My Humps" says that just because a woman is naturally sexy, gets a lot of money spent on her and is flirtatious, she doesn't owe anyone anything.  You can't deny there are a lot of songs on the radio that don't portray women in a good light.  Girls definitely can receive a message from pop culture that says slutty=successful.  This song is an anthem against that message.

Basically Fergie is saying:
I'm really hott and it makes guys like me.  I can't complain, I get a lot of free drinks out of it. Guys I'm dating buy me nice things, "I say no, but they keep givin."  Guys I date spend a lot of money on me, but don't get much action in return.  "I keep on demonstrating my love" but I really want to spend "time not money" with my man.  I make guys "love drunk", "make them scream" and make them "work" for me-- that is just the way it is.  If they want it then they will play by my rules.

Random guys are always hitting on me at the club; "always standing next to me trying / to feel my hump"  I don't mind so much if they just watch me dance. "You can look but you can't touch it, / If you touch it I'ma start some drama, / You don't want no drama, / No, no drama, no, no, no, no drama / So don't pull on my hand boy, / You ain't my man, boy, / I'm just tryn'a dance boy, / And move my hump.  All I want to do is dance without drama.  But if you disrespect me, you will regret it because I will bring a drama storm.  Believe it.

"My Humps" is a message from a confidant woman who has respect for her body and herself; it also happens to have a sick beat to dance too.   So real.
