My Life as a Song: I Get Along
60This should be a difficult question. I'm a teenager- moody and morose, with lots of problems...I should probably be choosing "The Black Parade" or something right?
No. I hate songs like that, all those songs about regret and how difficult life is, (even though most people who "identify" with those songs have hardly faced any real hardships, or so I'm convinced). The way I see it, my life is like this: I've made mistakes. I've learned from them. I make choices, some good, some bad. People criticize me for my choices. I live and learn, and somebody's always got a remark for me, or a disappointing look.
Which is exactly why the song I would choose to pair with my life is "I Get Along" by The Libertines.
You caught me in the middle dazed on the carpet I was following the lines, that move like more snakes thinking... Something ain't quite right You got the devil on your side, standing to your right come on You caught me in the middle dazed and confused I was following the good steps, fancy free and footlose. Something ain't quite right You got the devil on your side, standing to your right come on I get along, I get along, I get along, I get along... Get along (Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along) It's coming out my ears, so baby here's what we'll do There's four for you and six for him, and four for her and let me see now Now something ain't quite right You can get them on your side, then we'll have a good time, come on! I get along, I get along, I get along, I get along... Get along I get along just singing my song, People tell me I'm wrong.. F**k 'em! It's coming out my ears, so baby here's what we'll do There's four for you and six for him, and four for her and let me see now. Now something ain't quite right You got the devil on your side, Standing to your right, come on! I get along, I get along, I get along, I get along... And when I do, I'm singing... get along! (Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along, Get Along)
I'm the only person who has the right to criticize what I do. People can make their comments, and think they're knocking sense into me, but the truth is, I'm responsible for myself, and at the end of the day, I can say I've done what I want. It may not be what everyone else likes, or thinks is "appropriate"...but I'm only me. I can't be anybody else. =]
