My Most Anticipated Films of 2009
54I Love You, Man - Release Date: March 20
It might be my love for adorable, quirky Paul Rudd (most adored at Josh in Clueless and Wyatt in Overnight Delivery) that makes I Love You, Man one of my most anticipated comedies of 2009. Guy love at it's greatest, I Love You, Man is about newly engaged Peter (Rudd) and his quest to find a best friend to be his best man at his wedding. I'm thankful that a marriage comedy is focusing on the groom for once and all of the comical things he goes through in preparation for his wedding. Andy Samberg as Paul's younger, hipper brother is sure to be a great performance. Ever since Andy mocked Mark Wahlberg on SNL, he's been the comedian of my dreams. If only I were a man then I could enjoy this movie the way it is intended to be enjoyed: on a man date. I guess my boyfriend as my date will suffice.
Pixar's Up - Release Date: May 29
Pixar never fails to impress me with their clever movie ideas (monsters getting children to scream and converting the children's screams into energy) and their overly adorable characters (Wall-e and his love for all things simple, Nemo and his undergrown fin). Pixar Animation Studios will surely do it again with their May release of Up, the story of a 78 year old man, Carl Fredrickson, who refuses to be put into an assisted living home, choosing to explore the world instead. His method of exploration? A home made hot air balloon constructed of his house and brightly colored balloons. Pixar creates a loveable grump in the character of Carl. His demeanor in previews reminds me of Walter Mathieu in Grumpy Old Men: wrinkled and miserable, yet all I want to do is give him a hug.
Inglourious Basterds - Release Date: August 21
Quentin Tarantino fans have waited a decade for this movie. It's been said that Tarantino has been working on this script for ten years, and after learning that only one thought comes to my mind: this shit looks like it was worth the fucking wait. The tagline says it all: you haven't seen war until you've seen it through the eyes of Tarantino. Tarantino's group of motley basterds take on the Nazi's through murder, torture, intimidation and terror. Eli Roth's demented smile (see below) is the same look I get on my face every time I see this trailer. I can't wait to see this basterd in theatres.
9 - Release Date: September 9
9 is a computer animated 2005 Academy Award-nominated short film that will be released as a feature film on 9/9/2009. 9 revolved a character who looks like an animated potato sack who seems to be the last of his kind in a struggling world much like our own. The films recounts 9's struggle with his now dead friend 5. Together they scoured the remains of their trashed world in search of survival tools. One day they're seem by a mechanical, maniacal monster who had previously killed seven of their friends. 5 is killed, but 9 escapes. 9 must now survive alone in a decaying world. Produced by Tim Burton, the animation is cynical and dark, and promises to please the eye. Watch the short film here:
Funny People - Release Date: July 31
Director/Writer Judd Apatow tells the stroy of comedian and all around funny man George Simmons (Adam Sandler) who has just been told that he has cancer and only has a short time to live. The film follows Simmons as he comes to terms with his imminent death only to be told by his doctor that they might've beaten the cancer. What better way to face death than by laughing at it head on? There was 2 films coming out on 9/9/2009. One's called 9, and the other one is called Nine!
But Nine has now been pushed back to November. Probably because it didn;t want to go up against a Tim Burton animation!

I am so definitely watching 9, Inglourious Basterds and Up. Awesome trailers.
Thanks a ton :)
Star Trek.
I actually hung out with Paul Rudd a few months ago when Role Models was about to come out. He is such a cool guy and very personable. I too have been a fan of him since his early films like Wet Hot American Sumnmer etc.
Some other movies I lok forward to are Observe & Report, Lesbian Vampire Hunters, Monster vs Aliens & Year One.
Adam, you lucky dog, I would love to meet Paul Rudd and let him know how HILARIOUS he is. Year One is top on my list of your little list there.
