My Night Before Christmas
58
It was the night before Christmas
A bright starry night.
I snuggled in bed
And shut my eyes tight.
A few minutes later, I felt a light breeze
And a shiver ran through me right down to my knees.
I pulled back the covers and slowly stood straight
And I felt it again, a soft breeze on my face.
I stood oh so slowly, somehow not afraid
And then something brilliant,
I saw, quite amazed.
And what did my wondering eyes clearly see?
An Angel of God stood right before me.
Beauty and grace,
Wisdom and love.
Shone from her eyes,
And down from above.
I thought, what a dream!
How lucky am I?
“Sweet Child, you are loved,”
Came the reply.
“On this night long ago
Came a star to prepare.
And then came His Son
And a few were aware.
And He Walked on this Earth
As a child like you.
And He fell, and He learned
And slowly He grew.
His Spirit is still, here in every breath
He is with you in life,
He’ll be with you in death.
He can heal you with love
And bring calm to your heart.
He can change your whole world
Simply ask Him to start!
He is waiting for you,
So patient and fair.
He knows you will come to Him,
He is all aware.
He will not forsake you,
Nor lead you astray.
He will guide every footstep
He will start today.
Lift up your hands
Kneel down in prayer
Open your heart
And He will be there.
Think not of your past
Or of future cares
He sees only you now
His vision so fair.
On this night before Christmas,
The eve of His birth
Remember, Christ came to be with us on Earth.”
I stood now, mouth open
My mind in a haze
I thought finding freedom would be like a maze.
“So simple?” I asked.
“There is more I must do.”
“No, dear,” she said,
“You need only be you.
His vision is true.
He sees you as whole.
You are beautiful, treasured
Your heart is like gold.
You are loved so in Heaven
And always will be
You can have peace, joy, love
When you choose to hear me.
You were never forgotten
He has always been close.
And I am your guardian
Your heavenly host
I speak the truth
On this Christmas Eve,
For life is quite simple
God is what you need.”
