76Winding It Down...
Well I first of all want to thank everyone who has encouraged me, and recognized what I'm about to do. I thank you all for your comments, your advice, and some of you for sharing your past experiences with me on the subject of quitting smoking.
When I finished up writing last night, I had 17 cigarettes left. And almost exactly 24 hours later, I now have 10.
I woke up this morning earlier than usual and hopped in the car. Of course if you've smoked before you know hopping in the car and first thing in the morning are two of the key times that one smokes.
So as I'm driving this morning realizing that my smoking days are coming to an end, I thought to myself, "I need to cut this back as much as possible." So on any other day of the week I would have normally smoked two cigarettes on this length of a drive, but today I only smoked one.
I smoked another cigarette at home before I went on another road trip for the day. And on this road trip I smoked a few more.
Now I know this sounds like alot of smoking and you're probably just a bit disappointed right now after hearing that I was quitting, and now reading that I'm still smoking. But what I promised you out of this was complete honesty AND that I would finish my last 17 cigs!
And for today, I did cut back, I do feel the end very near, but I did still smoke. I will most likey smoke two more cigarettes tonight, which will pretty much completes my smoking by the end of tomorrow night...that's when this reading will get better I'm sure.
My spirits are good, and I have felt just a bit tense about this today, but I know that I'm ready and I'm preparing myself more than ever. I have read just about every hub on hubpages that I could find regarding the subject of quitting smoking and have found a few really good ones thanks to a few of you.
I will get into more detail about my day tomorrow and explain how the day actually goes and what my thinking is about smoking, but for today, other than making the decision to NOT smoke a few times when I normally would have smoked, it's been pretty normal.
You might be interested to know though that tomorrow I have planned to clean out my car. I plan to completely detail the inside of my car in an effort to try to knock out the smell of cigarettes in it. Wish me luck and I'll let you know whether that actually happens or not!
Other than that, I have some stinky/smelly/smokey laundry to do and a few cigarette lighters to pitch out to prepare for my biggest day so far on Wednesday. Thank you for reading and I apologize if you are sitting here disappointed with the read right now.
I didn't really feel that I should post anything today, but after all of your comments and encouragement and my promises to keep you updated, I felt like I had to! AND THAT my friends is exactly why I have put this out in front of you all!
Again I want to thank you for your support, and thank you for reading. Tomorrow will definitely be a bit more interesting! And Wednesday, for sure! So it's 7:44pm EST on Monday, May 18th, 2009, I have 10 cigarettes left, and I'm gearing up for the big day!
I hope you all have a good night! ~ Scott

It's not easy to quit smoking Scott, keep work on it ! Great job :)
great idea scott..to get rid of the odours which could pull you back...into the nicotine circle.
There is something slightly symbolic about tearing up those last few cigarettes, you really should consider it as it may just help you stay off them going forward.
good work mate...
Keep it up and no not disappointed in you.
This is very good scottaye73, just try to get away from all kinds of reminders, like places associated with cigs or even drinks... You can do it man! It's jus a habit not addiction. Wish you the best and still following your progress.
Thank you ESAHS , febriedethan , dianacharles, men are dorks , and shamelabboush!! Thank you for all of your encouragement!
BrianS, you have inspired me...I have decided to throw away the last few cigarettes today because I believe you may be right! Thank you, I'll be writing about this later tonight!
Chris Eddy111 , thank you for not being disappointed! I'm quitting today! You can read more later.
You can all come back later tonight to read more! Have a great day! ~ Scott
Half measures availed us nothing. Honesty means being honest to the thought that I will not smoke today or rather now. Tomorrow never comes.
khadilkarprakash, I agree. I see the wisdom in your comment. Quitting begins today, thank you for your thoughts. ~ Scott
I agree with you that the smoke gets into everything, your car, your clothes...for the next few days it is best to keep busy...don't forget that the smoke gets into curtains, carpets, and the walls..cleaning that lot should get you through the worst of the cravings Good Luck
Fortunately Hawkes, I did not smoke in the house! But I have plenty to do to get this totally out of my world, as I have looked at the little reminders everywhere, this list has grown, so I have alot to do. Thank you for your comments and your encouragement. Have a great day. ~ Scott
good luck for this good step for you life
I admire and praise you, I am sure you will succeed. I believe that quitting smoking is a different experience for every smoker. Some can quit cold turkey, others need to cut down gradually. The important thing is to be honest with yourself, which is exactly what you are doing, do not judge yourself, ask for support and take the road to quitting that suits you, not the one that others think you should take. If you do it your own way, you are much more likely to be smoke free forever. I look forward to reading more about your journey. Many blessings.
Thank you Lgali and Carol, I appreciate your comments. Carol, I couldn't agree with you more. You and I see it exactly the same on this one. Thank you for taking the time to confirm that! Have a great day today, I'll be writing later tonight! ~ Scott
Good decision, I hope you do well. I knew people before who quit smoking and they really had to decide that's what they really want - to quit smoking - and never smoked since then
Not only will you feel better, but you will smell better as well, thereby attracting more honeybees to your hive. Great idea to have the car detailed and get all your clothes cleaned. You'll be a new person! Keep it going.
scottaye73, many good wishes and big cheers to you in your quitting...sounds like you are doing a fantastic job of breaking the habit...would like you to check out my hub with a bit different view too, as it might be of future help/learning for you or others. Again, good wishes to you!!
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS!! I appreciate your thoughts and your encouragement...they are helping me! ~ Scott
