Well, the time has come...

Here I am folks, the time for quitting has finally come!

I woke up this morning with eight cigarettes left, and I did smoke right after I woke up this morning. But I must say, the plan to quit and the fact that the time is here now, has been what was on my mind the most today.

Yesterday I made the plan to clean out my car and do some laundry today. I did get some of the laundry done and I did get the car done for the most part. I do have some work to finish up on this tomorrow and probably the rest of the week actually.

But, I was here today reading all of the comments that you all have left for me on my last two hubs, and I want to say thank you to everyone. I feel the support and I want you to know that as I begin to go through this, your thoughts are helping me.

Quite honestly, I probably would have blown off the laundry and what work I did on the car today if I hadn't said something about it in last night's writing! So there's a little of the accountability that I was hoping to feel from this.

And as long as it remains to be an accountability factor and doesn't turn into PRESSURE (the "P" word that all men HATE), I know this will be good! I certainly felt that in a good and productive way today and wanted to make sure I told you about it.

One other thing I must share is that I have a host of people around me in my life that are rooting for me too. I have my parents, my brothers, my kids, others, and of course all of you now in support of me here and although I am feeling a bit anxious about this, I am actually excited for the first time in my life about quitting.

So one of my supporters here asked me the question today, "if money wasn't an issue, would you use the nicotine patches to help you quit?" I used the patches the last time I quit at the end of 2007/beginning of 2008 and they helped me quit for several months while I was using them.

And of course my thoughts are to make this 100% successful so my answer to that question was "hell yes!" So my most interested supporter in life has purchased the first 6 weeks of patches for me and I will be slapping one of those puppies on in the morning!

I expect to receive some criticism for this decision, but again, I'm doing this for me, and no matter how pretty or perfect some may think the plan should be, I have a responsibility to myself and no one else to make this work, so I'm going to try to ease the process just a bit with this decision.

And thanks to a few comments on hubpages here and my ability to stretch the cigarettes I had left today, I am happy to report to you I will be tossing my last three smokes right now.

To be VERY honest, I am outside on my laptop right now smoking the last cigarette of my life while I am typing this! It's 9:24pm EST on Tuesday, May 19th, 2009 and I am DONE! Here it goes......and it's out! I'm officially smoke free.

Well folks, again I want to thank you all. I will be writing tomorrow throughout the day and will publish another hub tomorrow night about DAY 1 of quitting and how it went. I have to go hop in the shower and get this smoke smell off of me RIGHT AFTER I flush my last three cigs.

Everyone have a good night, and I'll be back...grumpier I'm sure, but I will be back tomorrow night with some good wriitng hopefully, but even if it's not GOOD writing I'll be back none the less. I'll be updating you then! For now, I'm done...and I'm out! : )

Scott I am in the same boat as you are. Though I have 3 packs still remaining. I have something to quit for though.. My grandma just passed away Sunday from lung cancer. Very sad day for me and my family. I just wanted you to know that I believe in you and I believe that you can do this. My grandpa was crying begging me to quit smoking this weekend and I plan to. But like you, this is a very, very hard thing for me to do. It's not that I don't want to quit, it's that I actually like smoking and it helps the nerves. So I hope that you accomplish this and I am behind you 100% in however you decide or whatever you need to help you quit smoking. Keep it up and we all want updates! Good Luck!!

Keeping yourself busy like laundry, car washing, jogging is great solution to assist you. Keep it going pal... :)

Scott, being like you, a smoker who quit after each cigarette for many years, there is one thing to keep in mind. When you realize this deep in your mind and soul, you will make a success

Once a smoker, always a smoker. Just like alcoholics. You will stop, but deep inside you are still a smoker, on an endless break.

I root for you, Scott, and I wish you all success, one day at the time

Keep going Scott...rooting for you.

My husband tried giving up smoking many times...but couldnt. Then he was diagnosed with cancer and gave up.No one needs that kind of ultimatum.

Alissa, I hope you end up making the decision to quit, but it's your life, and only you know when the time is right to quit. Because I can tell you, and you know this, you have to be ready yourself because it is a very difficult thing to do. Thanks for your comments. ~ Scott

I will be joining you soon. Eight dollars a pack is just not worth it in addition to the myriad of other much better reasons to quit.

As of this writing One Day to Q day!

June 17, 2009

On this day I went to my doctor for my Annual Health Assessment and My Health is in Great condition. One thing bothers me about my Health after I left the doctor’s office. I have a problem, I SMOKE. In the past few years, I have tried countless times to quit smoking, but it never worked. I always ended up dating someone that smokes and my habit is renewed again. I had even made a promise to myself never to date a woman that smokes, but that didn’t work because women lie. They always come-out after a few weeks of dating.

On this day, I only had three cigarettes in the box. I smoked one when I got to work, I smoked one on my way to the doctor (about 1:30 PM) and smoked the other around 6:00PM on my way home from work. (I always feel good after a visit from my doctor. Trust me; most of my attempts to quit smoking were influenced after a visit from the doctor). As I was smoking that last cigarette, I was thinking about quitting smoking. I didn’t want to use the patch because I get weird dreams. My doctor prescribed Zyband back in May, but I have only taken a few of those pills. This time I really wanted to quit smoking.

What is motivating me to quit smoking more than anything is the fact that I am going to be a daddy in September. My first child, I have to live long enough to see her grow and become a woman. I want to be able to do things with my child and share knowledge that I have about our world.

I have not touched a cigarette and I plan not to touch one for the rest of my life. The cravings are gone (this is a Miracle). Please pray for me to continue on this path.
