My Space Layouts

So ... You don't have an MySpace page!? YEAH! right. I believe You. Just like You said You don't have an FB page :-) Seriously, besides my mom and dad I really don't know anyone that's not hooked on social networking site one or the other and in some case even few third ones! I'm not gonna talk about the differences but about one thing that makes/made MySpace stir out of the social crowd ... LAYOUTS!

Sure Your info is what makes You special but I believe Your page layout or theme You have is what makes someone wanna look at the picture of You and then maybe add You as a friend. Now, bare with me on this.
We humans are visual animals, meaning we act on/get interested for what we see first then decide to find out more about it. It’s like this: we see a girl/boy and we like his face/body first then we decide to get to know him better. I believe same principle goes for LAYOUTS! It’s the first thing people see and decide if they gonna get interested into it or not. If they gonna look at the picture and be more interested or not. If they gonna add You as friend and hang out with You … I guess I’m saying You should look at Your page ;-)

Now, did You build it or not!?
Are You using pre-made themes like Icontor.com is offering or You have made Your own!?
Are the colors right!?
Are those colors You have chosen cohere with whit each other or not!?
Finally, how can You make Your layout better!?

Quick note: This goes only for MySpace 2.0 layouts. To use it, upgrade Your MySpace account to version 2.0: Go to "Customize Profile."

1. Find complementing colors You like! This means you should look for a color scheme where You have either dark colors of background with light colors for fonts or vice versa. No one will look at Your navy blue background page with black fonts but if You get them white or yellow ... and remember color scheme is all about You (take a look at those two I've added).
   
2. Make links in different colors. In my example above (the navy background) have text in white while links are yellow and it’s an good eye catching combination.
3. Have a background picture instead a one color background. You can use any wallpaper from public domain picture places bhotobucket etc. and then work on Your layout around it. Colors You use should complement the picture You have chosen.
4. When using picture make Your text boxes are transparent in order for others to be able to see the complete picture.
5. It would be nice to know a bit about CSS (cascade style sheets) if You do it would be wise first to use one of the existing premade myspace themes to figure out what is what in it ;-) It’s easy to apply it … in the Customize section click "Select Theme" and choose "No Theme". Now click on "{} CSS" and a text box will appear on the right. Copy and paste a layout code from Iconator into the box. Now click "Preview" followed by "Publish."
6. If You’re not good with CSS use their ‘Advance Edit’. Easiest way, and safest, is to make one change and then check on Your profile what You have changed ;-)

It might seem like too much work, and it is, but it’s a fun and creative work. It will bring out Your creativity in a positive way and it will be seen and judged by others and it will, at least at the first glance, speak about You ;-)
Of course, You can always check myspace layouts at Iconator.com and use one of theirs or You can use it as a tool to submit Your version and see what others think of it. Iconator has a waste community that’s always open for suggestion and critique and their experience in making icons, avatars wallpapers and now layouts sure can and will come in handy ;-)
