My Facebook Story...
Creating contests on facebook is much harder than people realise. It takes knowledge of social media platforms to run a successful contest using social media yes, that goes without saying, but it also take a knowledge and understanding of human behaviour and group dynamics in order to know how to put together successful facebook contests, how to utilise and introduce any facebook applications to aid the contest and if you are trying to build your brand as part of the contest how to decide which facebook applications are right for business.
This is my story. As part of the Social Traffic marketing team who recently (in fact this week) launched our business using various social media tools, strategies, techniques and platforms I will talk you through what we have done and let you take a look behind the facebook contest curtain.

Facebook Contest | Social Traffic Soul Searching Contest
What's this about?
Story telling is a powerful way to market your product, brand or service and any successful marketer will tell you that people buy the story and not the product - think of your typical television commercial and this will soon be apparent.
So, how do you use stories as part of your social media marketing campaign?
Here is my facebook story, entered as part of the Social Traffic soul searching contest and used to introduce people to the group's fan page on Facebook in a way which would be outside of the norm for most businesses and which would offer value and hopefully entertainment to anyone with enough interest to read my entry;
Title - "Don't Forget To Vote"
If you've been on facebook and paying attention over the last couple of days you will have seen the activity around Social Traffic's fan page competition, which is part of the company's launch campaign on Facebook;
"Who Am I?"
This is a note writing competition open to anyone on Facebook who would like to tell the world a little bit more about themselves and answer these four questions;
Who Am I?
Who Am I Not?
Where Do I Want To Be In Five Years Time?
What Am I Doing About It To Get There?
I have entered and I hope you will do too and here's why;
This is a great soul searching exercise and a way to grow your brand as more people join the competition and view your note.
Prizes are HUGE! (take a look! at the link above)
It's FREE to enter!
The winner (the person who gets the most votes for their note) will be able to secure the support of Simon U Ford and his marketing team to promote, plan and execute a social media marketing campaign for a charity of your choice!
Even if you don't need this prize I am certain you will know someone who does.
What's the catch?
You have to go take a look at the best Fan Page on Facebook...

The Facebook Applications for Business Jungle
Back To The Future With Facebook Story Telling Contests
Social media has brought about a big change in the way we do business online and one which for the most part should be welcomed. The internet has evolved into a living, breathing animal enabling us to share, submit and distribute content across time and space ..
But dont be fooled by this big softie or it'll come back to bite you!
Story telling contests such as Social Traffic's soul searching contest on facebook may seem like a step back in time but get it wrong and you will be thrown out of the party for good and feel all alone in the wilderness, lost in time and space and struggling to get back to the future.
The bottom line is that facebook applications can offer businesses a great advertising and audience building tool if used correctly but if not, can sink your online ship as fast as the Titanic.

Who Am I? My Facebook Story...
Who am I?
I am a former professional soccer player, a marathon runner and a bad guitar player!
I am a writer, a poet and a dreamer.
I am a good friend.
I am a father of three children whom I have promised the world to and delivered less than I had planned. I am a husband to the most beautiful woman I have ever known who is still my reason to move forward in life and meet everything the world throws at me.
Who am I not?
I am not complete. I am not satisfied. I am not about to take the easy option in life. I am a battler, a fighter, tough when I have to be and focused on delivering the life I have promised to those who have not asked for it today and not tomorrow.
Who do I want to be?
I want to be respected for my knowledge, honesty and business intelligence. I want to leave a positive impact on those around me and those who come after me. I want to be unique, credible and at ease with life.
What am I going to do about it?
I am building a business alongside a group of cutting edge social media marketers, leading the world in delivering Social Traffic's Cracking The Code 10 week training course to business. I have spent several years drifting from one internet marketing course to another, acquiring knowledge, developing my business skills and refining my marketing acumen. Now I have begun to apply it, consistently and with results thanks to the leadership and direction of Doug McIsaac and Simon U Ford, my mentors.
I will continue to learn from those around me and those within the Social Traffic team and I will continue to take control of my life one day at a time.
Here's a note I've added from Simon U Ford's own note (feel free to read all the notes in the competition by following the link above and vote for the entry that you would like to see as the winner- if its me, great! If not, thats fine also);
Answering these questions is imperative to defining our personal brands, which is everything in social media. Answering these questions could be the most constructive thing that you do online. When I look at myself in the mirror and I ask myself these three questions - the only pacifying thought that comes to my mind is how thankful I should be about where I am, what I’m doing and how everything in my life fits together piece by piece.
Join the single entry competition and win first prize valued at $8000!
“Who am I” is a question asked by countless people searching for their souls. One such person who stands out from the crowd was a poet called Bulleya.
“Soul Searching” contest for teams win anywhere up to $100,000.00 cash shared by the winning team

Hi Neil...good point. There are some things I really enjoy about this contest: first of all, the sheer diversity of the Who Am I? stories...fascinating. Secondly, the chance to help the autism charity...Laura Lum who believes autism is treatable...and kudos to you too Neil. Salt of the earth that you are!
Excellent Hub Neil. I think you've convinced me to join the Soul Search competition. I'll see you there! BTW, I couldn't help but DIGG this story.
For any of you reading, why don't you DIGG it to at:
The 4 biggest questions anyone serious about making social media a bigger part of their business needs to have clear answers for.
The contest you talk about is as good a place as any to start working on these answers.
Nice job getting your readers to think.
Neil I love the way you right. YOur storytelling fo rme makes all your posts easy reads. They flow so smootly. I am always eager to see where you are leading us. This one is up to par. What a great call to check out this wonerful competition.
Neil,
Great explanation of the Soul Search contest. Your entry is a great example for anyone to follow.
I agree with Simon that anyone who wants to make a living online needs to understand the answers to the four Soul questions, but I'll go one step further and say that everyone should know the answers for themselves if they want to start making things happen in their lives.
Doug

Great hub. I did enter the contest and love it. The most exciting part is the fact that the first prize is for a charity of your choice. It cannot get any better than that!

Good point, Neil, in that social media is not about "selling" -- it's telling your story in an honest, forthcoming manner, and then sharing it in new ways. Storytelling and contests are effective, if done correctly. BTW, The Social Traffic contest is amazing on so many levels. I've voted for you -- and wish good luck to all the contestants.
