Fun on a Budget: My Top 10 Favorite Board Games
66No matter the economic condition I have been and always will be a lover of board games. Under our currenteconomic condition many people are looking for ways to entertain themselves, their families, and their friends without spending a ton of dough. By playing any of my top 10 board games you are guaranteed to have a great time on a limited budget.
10.) Monopoly - Because of our global economic mess have you found that you can't afford to buy a piece of property to save your life? Try your hand at Monopoly! These days, where else could you assemble a cash fortune, phat real estate, and a chain of hotels? Besides...you can be a thimble or a top hat! The race car is overrated.
9.) Pop-O-Matic Trouble - Chase down your opponents before they guide all of their game pieces around the board and back "home." This is an intensely fun game. But, let's face it, the reason we all play it is because of the groovy bubble that you pop in order to roll the dice. Duh!
8.) Ouija Board - Investigate the paranormal with this game. Place your hands on the pointer and ask the board a question, and then make the pointer move toward the answer that you wan....WAIT! I mean...the pointer moves on it's own. But I digress...no matter if the pointer moves on its own, or if cousin Cindy is moving it (but denies it), this game is still a ton of fun. Maybe you can summon someone to solve the financial crisis!
7.) Outburst! - One of the best party games out there. Pick your teams and play along by yelling out the names of the 10 items included on the topic cards. Topic cards range in subject from the characters in Snow White, to items that you would find in a classroom. Calculate your points by the number of correct guesses.
6.) Mad Gab - Another great party game. Play on teams and guess the true phrase or name among a jumble of ridiculous words that sound like the correct phrase. This game is sooooo frustrating...in a good way.
5.) Twister - True, the twister "board" is really a mat, but who's paying attention to minute details? Test your flexibility and coordination with this classic game. It is also a great excuse to get all up on your significant other *cue Marvin Gaye*.
4.) Life - Has the economic recession made your life suck? Get a new one. Play life and find a new house, job, salary, children...just don't get the split level...eeck!
3.) Battle of the Sexes - Who doesn't love a good ol' fashioned women vs. men battle royale? Make your way across the board by answering questions pertaining to each sex (I must admit that I knew more of the "male" questions) and prove the superiority of the ladies. Sorry, guys, but you'll lose every time.
2.) Cranium - This game combines the skills of other classic games like Charades and Pictionary to culminate in a truly amazing time. Watch your friends attempt to act like their favorite celebrity or hum a classic song. Plus, there's playdough!
1.) Clue - The holiest of holies. This classic board game is a favorite of whodunit lovers. Play this game with your family and friends to try and solve the murder at the Boddy Mansion. You can also check out the DVD edition with multiple stories and games to play through.
