Work-In-Progress

My list of 100 favorite movies will be a perpetual work-in-progress, in a state of constant flux. The list will grow organically from movies mentioned in other hubs. When new movies are added to the list, the list will be re-ranked. When the list reaches 100, each newly nominated film will be evaluated against the others, then either replace one of the others in the top 100, or be discarded.

I don't go to movie theaters any more. The last movie I went to a theater to see was "Jerry Maguire." That would've been roughly 1996 - 13 years ago. But I never saw the movie that day. The line was long and reservations were required, which we didn't have. So we left. Which leaves "JFK" as the last movie I actually SAW in a theater. That would've been 1991 - 18 years ago.

I find the seats in most mvoie theaters unfortable, the refreshments too expensive, and the behavior of others annoying. Plus, you can't BYOB.

But my TV's on around the clock - even when I'm not home. Except for ball games, the TV's always tuned to movie stations. I do a lot of things when I'm home - write, practice the keyboards, play race horses - so it's easy for me to see 5-10 movies every day. And there's no limit to the number of times I'll watch a movie I like.

My Likes and Dislikes

I am very opinionated when it comes to movies. But since this is a list of MY favorite movies, that's exactly the way it should be. I believe it will easier if I first address the types of movies I dislike.

Let's see ... science fiction, horror, anything by Stephen King, musicals, period pieces, westerns, animations, anything about vampires, anything that has to do with transforming, and anything with intruding CGI, which stand for Computer Generated Images.

My likes can fall into just about every other category. And, yes, there are exceptions to the rules in regard to movies I dislike. At times I find a movie in one of my taboo categories that I like,

So let's get started.

My First Nominations

So far, I mentioned three movies in my other hubs.

On June 5 - mentioned "Beautiful Girls" in The Beaver - In Danger of Extinction?

On June 7 - mentioned "The Shawshank Redemption" in The Bikini.

On June 9 - mentioned "Romancing the Stone" in Where Have You Gone - King Size Snickers?

I mentioned five other movies in The Bikini - "And God Created Woman, Neptune's Daughter, Million Dollar Mermaid, The Original Mermaid, and Mermaid Queen." But I never saw any of them and probably never will. So I will withhold comments. The only one that interests me in the least is "And God Created Woman." It caused quite a sensation when I was a teenager and I may have seen it at the drive-in - which means I didn't really SEE it.

I will take the movies in the order they were introduced, and cover each one individually on a separate hub. When I link the title here to the corresponding hub, you know I've stated my case.

That addendum mentioned three movies - Eddie and the Cruisers, Rocky IV, and Cobra. They will be added to the list of My 100 Favorite Movies and will be evaluated and ranked ASAP. For now, they will occupy Spots 4,5, and 6.

two more nominations

06-18-09 - Both 48 Hours and Love Actually were mentioned in the hub Maroon 5 - A Rock Group.
