Waxahachie is a town located about 30 miles south of Dallas, Texas. If you're ever anywhere near the area, it is worth a visit. On our visits there we have found the following sites to be of particular interest.

One of the many grotesque faces seen around the courthouse
One of the many grotesque faces seen around the courthouse

3. The Ellis County Courthouse-the architecture is incredibly interesting. There are dozens of grotesque faces caved into the stone surrounding the building. There are just as many stories about the history of these. The courthouse square reminds you of a scene from "Back to the Future". It is interesting to note that this courthouse square has been used in many movies and commercials. When we were there last they were filming a movie across the street at the Rogers Hotel that they turned into apartments for "The Beacon". According to the IMDB website it is in post production and scheduled to be a 2009 release. It stars Teri Polo, David Rees Snell, Michael Urie, Michael Ironside and Elaine Hendrix.  The link is provided below.

2 . The Munsters Mansion-A replica of the house featured in the 1960s television show "The Munsters" can be found just outside Waxahachie. We were able to find the house with little trouble and with just the info found on the web. Meet the owner in the video below.  A link to their website is found below as well.

The beautiful Catfish Plantation
The beautiful Catfish Plantation

1. The Catfish Plantation-I first learned of the Catfish Plantation from a book I purchased called, "A Texas Guide to Haunted Restaurants, Taverns and Inns" by Robert Wlodarski and Anne Powell Wlodarski. I've been to the Catfish Plantation Restaurant three times within the last 18 months. Although, I'm certainly open to the idea, I and my family have not yet personally experienced any supernatural activity while there. The food and atmosphere is fantastic. You simply cannot taste all of the goodness in just one visit, although we've tried. Our favorite sides so far are their hushpuppies, the coleslaw, and the onion rings. Our favorite beverage is their cherry limeade. My husband's favorite entrée is the Aloha Chicken. Mine is the catfish and my teenage daughter loves their Southern Fried Chicken. We all love the cobblers.

Valerie CassitySpecial to the Sun Last weekend, I had the unique opportunity to take part in a professional ghost hunt in one of the many historic houses in the Kern Valley, conducted by the Ethical Paranormal Investigations of California (EPIC). Although we won’t know for a month if any ghosts were recorded during the session, which lasted from 8:00 p.m. to 2:30 a.m., there were definitely ...

Well....that's the address you'll find on their gate since that was the address of the house on the series. But, they are easily found on FM-813 off Business Hwy 287. It was about 2 miles down FM-813. Hope you enjoy it.

We had to cancel our trip to Houston this week, which is disappointing because you and another hubber had helped to form my itinerary with your hubs. We were really looking forward to the Munster house. But it remains on our bucket list, and I hope to get to end it before the bucket is "kicked"!! :-))

Sorry to hear you had to cancel the trip! The Munster House is way cool. My husband and daughter laugh at me because they don't get the same feeling I do when I see it. My husband was only vaguely aware of the TV series because he grew up in England. My daughter has never seen the show to appreciate it. For me, it's like stepping back into my childhood and seeing something firsthand that you used to only see on TV. Hard to explain.

I had the same reaction to castles in England. They're jaw-dropping to see. For us in the USA, castles are fairytale stuff, not something you really ever expect to really exist even though you've read that they do. But, we'd be just driving along and POOF there was one! Took me by surprise everytime! Incredible!

My parents live in Waxahachie and didn't even know the Munster mansion was there. Me and my hubby love the show and found it on an internet search of things to do in Waxahachie. We stopped by and snapped tons of pics. Unfortunately they aren't open for tours until Halloween, so I told Mom and Dad that's where we were going for our trip this year!

It wasn't hard to find either, was it Patricia? I keep telling people that it's easy enough to find just with directions off the internet. I don't like the curve in the road right there by their house because it makes it hard to stop for too long and take pictures, but I did just like you. I plan to go around Halloween too. The poor people would never get any rest if they had it open all year...LOL Thanks for stopping by!

This is great weekend to visit Waxahachie! The Munster Mansion is having a fun event the 30th and 31st!

The locals have a tendency to ignore this place. The couple that own it are very strange and obsessed. You have to park a mile away and the entry is on a winding road and is very dangerous. There is always a charity twist to it's operation but most complain that the charities get the short end of the stick.

I understand Proud Mary. I think it's like most things, they are geared towards tourists. Locals have been there, done that and don't see it as that big of a deal. For me, it was fun just to drive by there. You're right about the dangerous winding road.
