Treasure Hunts
There many different types of treasure hunts sometimes called scavenger hunts.
From the low tech in your house scavenger hunt running around the house
and garden trying to find items from a shopping list. To the more
complex Geocaching where you take a GPS receiver and head out into the
country, finding marker points and finding clues.
On foot, in a car..
Treasure hunts can be done on foot, in the car, in the countryside or
in a city. In the countryside the clues may require a good map and a
compass to guide you and your team. While the city treasure hunt makes
a great way to take an interactive guided tourist tour. There are
several companies offering pre-made treasure hunts in world wide
cities. Great idea for a hen party.
Treasure hunts are a great opportunity for building teams and a fairly
inexpensive way in these tough times. Taking a team or two from a
company around your local city on a treasure hunt - finding out about
the city - solving clues - can be a great way of getting people to bond
together. Corporate treasure hunts can be home made but there are
companies who will workout a treasure hunt for you and sort out all the
mechanics so everyone in the company can join in.
Geocaching is one of the latest versions of a treasure hunt, which
normally involves finding hidden capsules at different grid locations
on a map. The capsules normally contain a guest book to sign in and
often people exchange small tokens. The capsule might also contain a
stamp so you can add a stamp to your book showing the locations you
have found. Geocaching is relatively new as it only became possible
when the GPS system was unlocked by the military to allow more accurate
positioning.
Treasure hunting, apart from the movie references and the historical
archeological treasure hunts for Nazi Gold, has a more simple
background. It can be just a scrap of paper with a list of things to
find. It could be a more complex set of treasure hunt clues designed for old and
young alike.
