My Unforgettable Valentine Day

I open my eyes and see that my husband isn't next to me. Now I turn around and the clock on the wall indicates it is 11.40 am (Oh God!! Late again yesterday I got up at 10.30 am and today at 11.40 am I am going from bad to worse and the worst part is that today even my husband got up earlier than me). Now what are my in laws going to think of me? Anyway I hurriedly adjusted the bed and walked out of the room in a nightie. My mother in law greets me with a good morning and asks me whether I will have tea or coffee (I told her no I would directly take bath). My mother in law immediately switches on the geyser for my bath. Meanwhile my husband is drinking tea in the drawing room sofa and talking to his dad(who is a Professor). I was just going back to the bathroom when my husband gives me a smile and all of sudden I was feeling so shy and I just walked away from them.

I took my bath and selected a particular yellow with green border sari presented by my mother in law. My mother in law complimented me and asked my husband also to take bath quickly as our brunch is ready. Meanwhile I called up my brother who was leaving today evening so that we could sync up at what time we would be joining them at the airport for farewell. As soon as my husband finished his bath we all sat for the brunch and my mother in law prepared all my favorite dishes (i.e, a particular egg plant dish, Rasam (sort of like lentil/tomato soup) and a Yoghurt dish followed by a nice sweet dish). The last 3/4 days I have been eating so much that I suddenly lost appetite a little bit (we were invited to couple of lunches and dinners since our marriage). My mother in law kept insisting for second helpings and I ended up consuming twice as much as I normally would have. My husband was feeling very heavy and he wanted to sleep for a while. Meanwhile I called up my mom and spoke to her. My husband got up an hour later and we all had tea. It was about 4.30 pm and our driver had come as requested of him.

My husband told me earlier to wear jeans and t shirt (instead I chose full hands shirt). It was the first time my in laws saw me in those clothes and even I wasn't sure how they would react but then they were cool (at least in front of me they appeared to be cool). We were talking endlessly in the car and my husband received some calls too during this time (one of the calls was from his friend in Singapore who couldn't make it to our marriage). Finally we reached the airport and my parents/brother were already waiting for us at the entrance. My husband immediately bent down to seek the blessings of my parents and my dad hugged him. I also hugged my mom. We all went inside the lounge. Then my dad/brother/husband were talking among themselves while I was talking to my mom in another corner. It was about 7 pm and my dad told us that you "love birds" may have other plans and should carry on. I was feeling shy but I just agreed to their plan. We said our good byes and my husband pulled out from his pocket Toblerone (I was wondering why he wore the Jacket as he prefers just t shirts then I realized it was to surprise my brother) and gave it to my brother (which is his favorite chocolate). My brother was very happy and then we left the airport. I asked him when did he buy that then he told me yesterday evening when we all went to drop his sister(and her family) at the railway station on the way he had stopped at the particular store to buy this chocolate for my brother(I was too busy talking to his sister and didn't notice it then). Once we left the airport I was thinking his sister left and now my brother left but we two are the only people that are destined to stay together forever (it was a very emotional realization).

He said lets go to this great restaurant and I seriously wasn't in a mood to eat but then I thought he might be intending to give me a gift their hence I agreed. I ordered tomato soup and a plate of rava dosa (South Indian snack). He ordered cold coffee and noodles. We had our light dinner and yet there was no indication of any gift and after about 20 minutes we left the restaurant.

Then he said lets go to this dance club and I agreed (now I realized why he told me to wear jeans earlier)...LOL. Once inside the club he asked me "whether the beautiful lady would care to dance with me" (of course I am not that beautiful but it does feel nice to hear it from my husband)..hehe. There they were playing all the wonderful songs which I love so much. In one of the slow songs(paper roses) when he was holding my waist and dancing while looking into my eyes I wished that time would stand still and I could hold on to this magic moment forever and ever. But alas the song got over and finally when I was tired I told him that I would like to sit for a while and he gave a thumbs up in the direction of DJ.

Then the DJ made an announcement that "I request Mr N & Mrs R to come here and then he announced that we were newly married and my husband would like to gift me something" The DJ handed over to my husband a gift which he handed it over to me. It was a diamond studded citizen echo-drive watch. Everybody present were clapping and soon the music started again. It was one of those few moments in my life when I was totally at a loss for words. Thus ends my unforgettable valentine day.

P.S: Later in the night he told me that his cousin (who is a radio artiste) is the best friend of the DJ and he had bought this watch in the US itself and wanted to gift it to me on valentine day. Also once when he came to my apartment he browsed through my CD collection and saw this one CD case which contained most of my favorite songs(a lovely thoughtful gift from my younger brother). He made a mental note of those songs and then later told the DJ about my favorites. I will treasure this valentine for the rest of my life.

Hi Countrywomen, I feel the love behind the words you wrote here...and I also feel how special you are to your husband.  That brings a lot of joy to my heart.  It's the little gestures that contribute to it all - the little smile that reassures you that all is well, the favorite chocolate given your brother, and of course, surprise - playing your favorite songs as you danced and the special gift!  Thank you for sharing with us such a beautiful valentine day. May you make each day a valentines day.  :-)  Congratulations again to the newly wed couple.  My warm regards to your husband! :)

LG- It was a wonderful day and yes later after my cribbing that he shouldn't be so extravagant told me that the watch costs about $350 unlike what I thought of it earlier.

Hubber2009- I really liked the efforts he took to make my valentine day special. Right from learning about my favorite songs to gifts to my brother then respecting my parents everything counts and the cost of the watch(although not that much which I came to know later) isn't the sole criteria for making it a special day for me.

Ripplemaker- I hope I remain as special to him in future as I am today. When I was dancing there was a magical moment which can't be explained when I felt I wish could hold on to that moment for eternity. Thanks a lot for all your good wishes and blessings. You and Daisybee are forever overflowing with your positive outpourings to all of us here at hub pages. I am so glad that I met you both who are always spreading love and happiness. Salamat.

Country,

I'm so glad you had a lovely first Valentine's Day with your new hubby! You sound very happy and that IS the most important thing, isn't it? I thought it was very cute that you kept referring to him as "husband!" As if you love the sound of it! Very sweet!!

Congratulations on your marriage. Sounds like the day ended up very well, even though you slept through half of it. LOL

I would also disagree with this statement, "of course I am not that beautiful but it does feel nice to hear it from my husband", but as long as your husband lets you know, it's all good.

"When I was dancing there was a magical moment which can't be explained when I felt I wish could hold on to that moment for eternity." Sounds like good times. Priceless.

ReuVera- Yes I do have a wonderful mother in law but I sometimes feel little uncomfortable when I don't get involved in cooking/kitchen(other tasks) as freely as I do while I am at my mother's place. I guess it will take time to develop that rapport.

Robie2- Yes indeed the watch gift was just the icing and the whole effort gone into planning was more important for me.

Gwendy- Thanks for your blessings.

Ritu- They are indeed memories which will last me for a lifetime.

Madison- Well two reasons I keep calling him as "husband" one is due to that being a fact and the second is out of respect (husbands name isn't supposed to be taken directly as I have observed in our families).

Dave- Thanks a lot for "disagreeing" with me and yes it was surely magical and priceless.

Dottie- It was a pleasure sharing as Ripplemaker's happiness prompted me to write this hub and I had a little time then. I wanted to add more songs and just added one quickly. Luckily my husband has gone down to inquire about the activities and left me with the laptop and lo behold my addiction I am again checking up on hub pages...LOL

HappyWorld- Thanks a lot for your blessings.

Mr.Nice- I would spend more time once I return back to our apartment(and will browse your recipe hub). Meanwhile yes I love being the "kitchen queen" as I want to be queen of (his)heart and the best way to a man's heart is through the stomach...hehe. Btw his zodiac sign is Leo (Lion King) just like my father and I hope I remain his queen forever :-)

DingDong- Thanks for appreciating.

Netters- Indeed I am very lucky it is due to my parents blessings that i have got a good husband.

Violet- Even I am in my heart of hearts romantic and used to read Mills & Boon novels as a teenager and love chick flicks :-)

Joseph- I don't know what I have done in this life (and also past lives) but I certainly feel my parents good karma and blessings have resulted in good results for me :-)

RamRam100- Thanks for your blessings.

TOF- Thanks and yes congratulations was one of my favorite songs(played on that day) hence I included it now. I wish I had more time to do a thorough hub but then I decided better a small quick hub now rather than a detail hub later.

Anjali- Thanks for your blessings. I wish I could include all the songs but the time was short and I just added one song earlier. Maybe I will spend more time later and include all the favorite love songs played that day for me.

Eric- My friend hints are not meant to be given but then you are one of my friends hence no problem ;)

Thanks all for your best wishes/blessings. I am really glad you all stopped by and commented.

SweetiePie- My marriage went well and my honeymoon is still going on;) All the years of being alone on a valentine is being repaid with compound interest now. Yes 2009 seems to be my year and thanks for all your best wishes/blessings :-)

Lita- I am sure you had a great time too "wining" and not "whining" ;)

Dayzeebee- WOW!! You could feel my "giggle"(although I am not a teenage girl chronologically any more although I act like one often) ;) I was actually too embarrassed in front of my father in law to respond to his "smile" (which only I know what it reminded me). Thanks for all the best wishes and coming from a pure soul like you it really means a lot for me :-)

Gracy- Well more than the expense involved I really appreciate all the thought/planning that took place. Yes I do have a nice in laws and husband. I am really glad to have wonderful parents who proposed such a good match for me. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Andrew- Although it is difficult to expect wonderful moments all the time but being an eternal romantic I do hope all days would be just as "special". Thanks for your prayers/best wishes.

GoldentToad- I will surely seek the advice of all my well wishers but hopefully I wouldn't need much in the first place ;)

Cris- True friends always give their best to others and I am sure I can count on all you guys whenever I really need sound advice.

MM/Susan- You will certainly be in my list whenever I do seek advice. In fact I consider you a nice device to give wise advise :-) Btw I am not aware that the bar was high since this is the only valentine I ever had in my life but yes I would have to be realistic about future expectations. Yes these are heady days (I know exactly what you mean) *winks back*.

Elena- Thanks for the best wishes. Yes I will surely treasure these special moments for the rest of my life. Sending you my flying "besos". Muchas Gracias.

Nicole- It is due to my family that I am able to pursue my dreams and now due to my family have met my soul mate. My heart is not used to so much happiness and don't know how long it will last (but hoping it will last a long long time). It was really a pleasure writing this since ripplemaker was so happy it prompted me to share that wonderful day with all my friends here. Thanks a lot of for all the best wishes.

Ajcor- Yes the special day that I was almost giving up will ever happen then it did actually happen. Thanks a million for these heartfelt words "marriage last forever and ever, and your special happiness grow day by day". Amen.

Agvulpes- I have always considered you as the Awesome Aussie who prefers my company over tea. Btw once when I saw you defending me then I felt you were responding almost like a "father" who goes about protecting his daughter when she needs it the most. I will never forget that. You are always welcome to interact with me however you please. Once a person is within the innermost circle then the outer formalities don't matter :-)

Mr.Nice- For a change you didn't send me a "nice" info..LOL. That was really funny but don't worry ours wasn't so "interesting". Yes I will check it out or rather actually make it and then reply to you.

Tatjana- I still greatly appreciate your love, light and wishes (and extremely nice gestures like "clicks") ;) I know you really mean the best for me. I thought there is more pleasure being in control but now all of a sudden I really love the feeling of letting him take control and me leaning on his strong shoulders and him taking care of me. It really is a indescribable feeling :-)

Sidd- It was really a special day and also when some fundies want to ban such days since they are against so called "Indian" culture. It really turned out to be a very interesting day with media also showing that news item again and again :-)  I guess we don't need such politicians to impose there style of "morality" on us. How did you personally feel when these self styled advocates of "our" culture were trying to spoil a harmless day of celebration of joy? Thanks for stopping by and looking forward to your comment.

Anamika- My husband had made some plans and also our leave schedule was tight. I really missed hub pages and all the wonderful hubbers like you all. Thanks for the best wishes.

Laila- The marriage wasn't held at Cochin although I have lots of good memories of Cochin when my dad was posted there. One of my best friends is from cochin(I think it is called kochi now)...hehe. I hope you had a great time and looking forward to talking to you soon. Thanks for all the best wishes.

Lgali- It is due to the blessings/best wishes of friends like you along with my family that has helped me to get a good husband. Thanks a lot for your best wishes and I am really looking forward to be back and active again like you :-)

Vladimir- "Congratulations" will forever be another favorite song of mine since right after he gifted me the watch that was the song that was played. Thanks for the best wishes and stopping by to comment.
