My first Camera was a Brownie

What a flood of memories this request brought! My first camera was a Brownie Box Camera and I remember I was so proud of it! I was just a child, perhaps 8, when I got the camera for Christmas. I took it to Girl Scout camp the following summer and took pictures of everything!

I no longer have the camera, but I do still have some of those old black & white pictures. Some are yellowed with time now, but are still great reminders of a carefree childhood with lots of good friends.

I remember loading the film in the closet - it had to be done in the dark so it would not get exposed. It was so much fun to look through the viewfinder, find the perfect shot, click the button and then pull out the winder knob and wind the film to the next picture.

None of my friends had a camera yet, so I was the 'cool' kid on the block that summer. I wish I had that old camera now - although I really like my fancy digital camera.

I didn't have one of those but I have a picture taken of my uncles in 1943. It shows three Italian boys in upstate New York. Within a year two of them were on the battledfields of Europe. I always thought a great story could start with that picture.
