Delicious Chocolate Banana Spinach Smoothie

Several years ago (1994) the Butenko family was faced with a crisis in health. The mother, Victoria Butenko did some research and is now the best selling author of many raw food cook books. as well as an award winning speaker. Now the recipe that i would like to contribute is one of her simple "smoothies."

one frozen banana

2 handfuls of spinach

1/2 cup of coconut milk

unsweetened chocolate

16 ounces of water

Nuts and/or seeds can be added and very often I add sumflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts or flaxseeds bceause of their high omega 3 fatty acid oil content. Avocados can also be added for the same reason, and contrary to popular belief can be used in a weight reduction program. I buy bananas in bulk and in order to keep them on hand, you can simply peel them and freeze them individually. This will also make your drink nice and cold.

There are many variations of this. It is important to use a high nutrient density leafy green vegetable. The coconut milk is absolutely great for your skin and, of course, unsweetend chocolate is a very important anti-oxidant. Plus, if you're dieting it sure tastes great. You'll hardly know you're dieting. This a basic smoothie being offered on most "raw food" diet sites. Obviously, you can also use other fruits for bananas. some have lost hundreds of pounds with this smoothie. Bon Apetiti! Bananas are high in potassium and may lower your risk for heart disease. However, you can add othe fruits/vegetabes as well for variety. Bananas alone has over 80 different nutrients.

Of course, the leafy green vegetables are for your vitamin B's. If you check Dr. Joel Fuhman's site, you will find information about nutrient dense vegetables.

Honey, this is for weight loss. Your recipe looks good for someone who isn't terribly interested in dieting. the reason for the green smoothie is so you can get all your vitamin and minerals from the spinach. the unsweetened chocolate or cacao powder is a great anti-oxidant. Your recipe is really a good dessert though, but for a skinny person.

Thanks
