My melasma treatment experience
75My melasma treatment experience
I have had melasma for years. In the past year I have aggressively sought to make it better. I tried laser light treatments, but it made it worse. It may work for others, but did not for me.
Since the laser darkened my condition to my mortification, I began using products to lighten the brown spots on my forehead, nose, upper lip, and sides of my face. I used the products I will share here with you, religiously every day.
I first tried a product from my doctor that was 7% hidroquinone, and contained hydrocortisone, retnoic acid and Kojic acid. I put it on every night for over a month. There was drying and slight peeling of my skin. Very minimal improvement for that month, but skin looked a litte better.
Then for the next month I alternated every other day with the above mentioned cream, and a 4% hidroquinone cream I got over the internet.
Result was a little bit better. My spots lightened a little, but nothing to write home about. The next month, I got Triluma, and put it on twice a day, morning and night for three weeks. Teensy bit lighter, but again, nothing to write home about.
For a month I decided to try all three products in alternation. My regimen for day one was to put Triluma in the morning, and after an hour I put on a moisturizer so my skin would not dry out. Then, about lunchtime, I put on a light film of the 7% hydroquinone mentioned above. At night, more Triluma before I went to bed.
Day two, I used the 4% hidroquinone cream once in the morning, a little more around 2pm, and Triluma at night and a light moisturizer each time after the lightening creams had had a few minutes to dissolve well into my skin.
Day three, I would use the the 7% hydroquinone in the morning, and Triluma at night, with a moisturizer.
The next day, I would go back to the day one regimen, and repeated.
RESULTS: Pretty decent. My spots began to lighten, and I noticed much improvement to the tune of about two shades lighter melasma than with what I started out. I am still doing the regimen, and hope to get it a little lighter, to where I can live with it, and just wear a good makeup base to even out my skin.
THE most important thing I have learned is that YOU MUST WEAR A HIGH LEVEL SUNSCREEN every time you are out. Make it a habit to put it on every single day of your life, or whatever you use to treat your melasma condition will not work as the UV rays of the sun will always have a darkening effect on the melasma.
Hope this will help someone with this condition, and I hope others will share their experience with products they are using.

I had this problems for a couple years and tried EVERYTHING. One day, I found an old bottle of vitamin E pills and started using them topically. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. My condition dramatically improved within a week!! I put it on constantly, and it is greasy but it improved all kinds of things about my skin.
