The Mystery Pencil Cap

My first encounter with a ghost was in middle school. I was about 13 years old. I was in Health class. We were doing a paper on hygiene or something similar. Remember in the 80's we used the pencils with the individual leads? When the lead ran out, you took the empty plastic piece from the bottom and inserted it back into the top of the pencil. Mine was a smelly one too, peach I believe. Well, it also had a see-through plastic cap, which I had placed on the end of my pencil. I looked away for a moment and heard the sound of something hitting the floor on the other side of my desk. I turned to look and noticed that the cap to my pencil had fallen off. I reached over to retrieve the cap and couldn't find it. I sat there, bent over, nearly suffocating myself I was hunched over for so long looking for that darn thing. Finally I got tired of looking and sat back up in my chair. Only to notice that the cap to my pencil was sitting on the end of the pencil where it was originally. I found out years later that that school was haunted.

Mrs. Olson

My mother, sister, and I moved into a house when I was about 16 years old. It was an older home. My mother told me that the lady who lived there had died of cancer just a month before. I didn't think anything of it. Most people die of cancer these days.

My sister and I shared a bedroom and my mother's room was across the living room. One night I woke up to someone yelling, "F*ck You, F*ck You" very loudly. But as I sat up to ask who was yelling, I realized that it wasn't my younger sister's voice, and my mother never talked in her sleep all the years that I'd known her! I slowly and quietly laid my head back onto my pillow. Seconds later, the end of my bed was being lifted up and dropped. First it just felt like shaking, but then I actually felt it lift off the ground about a 1/4" several times. After a few seconds it stopped, thank God.

In that same house, my mom and sister and I would also hear the cupboard doors opening and shutting. Mostly in the evenings, around dinner time. Also, the basement door would open and shut when nobody was looking.

Mother finally disclosed that Mrs. Olson, the previous owner, actually passed away in my bedroom! And this was a farmhouse, so Mrs. Olson would open and shut the cupboards and do the same with the basement door, around dinner time. I assume when her and her husband were younger, the husband farmed the land, and Mrs. Olson would do the cooking, as women did back then. The basement was probably a root cellar at one time, since half of it was still dirt in the 1990's. The house was around 60 years old.

Pennies

I'm a definite believer that spirits/ghosts/entities, whatever they are, leave money laying around for us to find. The first time I saw this right before my own eyes, I was a believer for life. My uncle passed away from cancer 3 years prior to this evening that I was visiting with my family. We were all talking about my uncle and later that night we all sat down at the table on the deck outside. I had been sitting there for about 20 minutes already, watching the kids run around the yard, and never noticed anything out of the ordinary. My mom came and sat with my aunt and I, we chatted for awhile and had our dinner. Immediately after my mother got up from her chair, I saw something shiny out of the corner of my eye. There were three brand-new, shiny pennies! It was the coolest thing ever. We all shed a few tears over that one.

Noises

I've heard many noises throughout the last decade or so, that I considered to be "ghostly". For instance, my father is in heaven and he never knew about me. Fortunately I found his family seven years after finding out who he was. During the time that I was planning a trip to visit his wife and four children (my step-mom, three brothers, and a sister), several times I heard my kids' toys rattle behind me or other little noises that weren't the building settling or kids playing. Presently, I have a television that turns on and off as it pleases. I've heard from other sources that televisions will turn off by themselves when getting old, but never have I heard that they've turned on!

The Old Man

This isn't MY story, but my husbands story. Across the field from his parents house, is an early 20th century-built home, hidden amongst the pine trees. As a teenager, my husband was very vicarious and mischevious, not to mention adventurous. He decided to go up to the old house one day, thinking that it was abandoned, like so many people in the neighborhood had told him. He continued to walk up to the house and an old man came out. My husband and the old man chatted for a bit. The old man said something along the lines of, "....my mother will get mad." Hubby thought that was kind of funny. Here he was, probably an 80 year old man, worried about what his mother says. My husband proceeded home to tell this story to his mother. His mother's reply was, that house has been vacant for 20 years, ever since Mr. (What's his name) died. Hubby said his jaw hit the floor.

Hope you enjoyed the stories!

I love to read about people's personal experiences with ghosts or whatnot. These are some good ones. Very creepy. You tell it in a way that makes me believe you, lending the story a kind of validity. Thanks!

Thanks MissJamieD for sharing your experiences. I had a similiar experience with losing a napkin at the dinner table. When I went to retrieve it, it was nowhere to be found. Later that evening I moved all the chairs and crawled under the table looking for it. Never found it. The same has happened with spoons and forks--I'm such a clutch! I wonder if it has anything to do with losing socks in the dryer...

We had a ghost in the house where I grew up. He would open and close the kitchen cupboard and then walk up the stairs to his room. Sometimes he would open and close the french doors repeatedly.
