Why Become a Myspace Member?

I have been a Myspace member for what seems like forever now. I am sure those of you who have not joined it's because you heard some bad things about Myspace. Well, it's only as bad as you let it be. Here are some reasons to join:

  • It's free (I don't know about you, but FREE is my favorite price)
  • You can connect with people that you used to know
  • You can connect with new people
  • You can share your photos and interests with other myspace members
  • You can find new music, or if you are a musician...you can share your music with others.

  • You can find comedians, or if you are a comedian...you can share your comedy with others
  • You can make and share videos
  • Join a group with some people with the same interests
  • Blog until your little heart is content
  • If you don't like it, you can always cancel.

Getting Started

Go to www.myspace.com

There you will find a login box...but wait you are not a member yet! You need to sign up. This is basic information, you should already know.

  • Email
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Password (Something you make up)
  • Country
  • Postal Code
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • Preferred Language

Congratulations! You are now a myspace member. What's next...

Fill in your personal information

Keep in mind that you can fill in as much or as little information as you want. If you are a private person, you can keep your profile on private so only your friends can view your page.

Your Name:

Choosing a display name can be tricky, if you can't think of something that you want as a display name, use your name (I would not suggest putting your last name in your display name, first name will do)! When you put in your full name, remember they only use this for searching.

Basic Info:

  • Gender
  • Date of Birth
  • Occupation
  • City
  • Country
  • Region
  • Zip Code
  • Ethnicity
  • Body Type
  • Height
  • I am here for... (Do you want to find love? Find friends? or Just Network?)

    • Dating
    • Serious Relationships
    • Friends
    • Networking

Background & Lifestyle

  • Marital Status
    • Swinger
    • In a relationship
    • Single
    • Divorced
    • Married

  • Sexual Orientation
    • Bi
    • Gay/Lesbian
    • Straight
    • Not Sure
    • No Answer

  • Hometown
  • Religion
  • Smoker
  • Drinker
  • Children
  • Education
  • Income

Schools:

Put in any school you want people to be able to find you from.

Companies:

Put in any company information people might affiliate you with.

Networking:

What would you like to connect yourself with? Trying to be an actor, singer, dancer, or model? This is the place to put those connections

Interests and Personality

This is where it gets a little trickier, and might intimidate some of you new time Myspace users.

Headline:

Choose your favorite quote or saying, and if you are feeling stumped just leave it blank for right now.

About Me:

To start just fill in some general information about you. It might look something like this: "I am a student that is studying biology and hope to study marine biology someday. I love the ocean and all ocean creatures". This is just something I thought of off the top of my head, but you get the idea. When you become more pro this is where you will put the code for your background, but don't work about that right now newbie.

I'd Like to Meet:

Who would you like to meet? Friends, famous people, artists? Who?

Interests:

What are your interests? Love to bungie jump, or read a book, put it in there!

Music:

What type of music do you like? Country, rock, alternative? What bands?

Movies:

What movies do you like?

Television:

What do you like to watch on TV? Favorite shows?

Books:

What is your favorite book or books?

Heroes:

Who do you consider your hero? Is it someone famous? A family member perhaps?

Whew, you are finally done with this section!

Picture

Choosing a picture is an important part of your page. You want to pick a picture that says something about you. You might want to choose a picture with your best friend, or your dog, whatever you choose, realize that this is the first thing a person that views your picture is going to see.

Choose wisely!

I just found this, but this is what a comment looks like.
I just found this, but this is what a comment looks like.

Comments

Want to leave a comment for your friend? Go to their page and right above where everyone else has left them a comment it says "Add Comment". You might want to say "Hey I really miss you, give me a call", or "Just wanted to see what is going on with you", whatever you want.

Remember that everyone who visits your friend's page can see this comment to them. Don't make it anything you wouldn't want someone else to know.

After writing the comment, choose post comment, then the confirm choose post a comment again.

You have just left your first comment!

Messages

Myspace messages are just like emails. You can write them a message if you only want that person to read it. You might have a secret to tell them, or just someting that is not necessary for everyone else to read it.

Bulletins

Bulletins are created for sending all your friends a message. Maybe you want them to check out a funny video you found, a survey that you filled out, or just something fun you want to share with everyone.

You can do this from your homepage. Choose post a bulletin, then write want you want to write, and then post bulletin, don't forget to confirm again with post a bulletin.

Dedication

This dedicated to my friend Janelle who doesn't know how to use her myspace. :)
