Because acne is such a common problem that affects many people worldwide there are a huge number of myths about it. In this article I’ll go through some of the more common acne myths so you have a better idea of what really works for acne.
First of all we start with the most common acne myth – that it is caused by eating chocolate. Of course, eating chocolate isn’t a good idea for your general health but there is no proof that it causes acne!
Some people may find that certain foods cause them to have a breakout of acne but these differ between different people. If you find that chocolate doesn’t cause breakouts for you then there is no reason to stop eating it – in moderation of course!
The next one is that getting a good tan can help stop you getting bad acne. This is simply not true and is actually quite easy to spot as a myth if you think carefully about it. Having a tan may reduce the appearance of acne because the spots show up less on darker skin, but that doesn’t mean that they are not there are it won’t make acne go away.
In fact, if you get a tan it may cause you to get irritated skin which can cause you to have more acne in the future as well as other problems such as skin cancer of course.
Also, acne isn’t caused by not washing your skin. It isn’t caused by dirt on the skin so you shouldn’t think that washing your skin more will get rid of spots. In fact, if you wash your skin too much you may cause irritation of the skin and hence more breakouts. Don’t scrub too hard or you could cause many more problems than you had originally.
Acne is a difficult problem to deal with and it is made a lot harder by the fact that so many different people have different opinions about how to deal with it. That is why you should always visit your dermatologist who’ll be able to advise you on the best way to get rid of your acne in a scientifically proven way.
