NBA Champs, NHL Awards, Mets-Yankees

This thursday the Spurs won their fourth NBA championship title in less than ten years. Does this make them the best team in basketball. I would have to say so, even though as a Mavericks fan I hate to admit it. I think we all knew that the Spurs were going to win. They were a better team, and the focus wasn't on just one player. I think the problem with the Cavaliers was it was all about Lebron. You can argue against that, but that is what I think. It was Lebron and the rest of the Cavaliers. Obviously it was not a team thing. And he was eventually their downfall. The Spurs were all over Lebron. Wise choice I might add. I would have tried to switch the lineups a bit during the series. Put in players they don't usually put in. Try to get the Spurs a little rattled. They might have done better that way. But congratulations to the Spurs on your fourth NBA championship. And congratulations to the Cavaliers as well. Obviously they are the best team in the east or else they wouldn't have made it.

Now for the NHL awards. The NHL awards are always shown the Thursday after game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals. At least that's how is has been for a few years. The awards were held in Toronto at the Elgin theatre, and once again, I throughly enjoyed them. Here is a list of the winners:

Of course I have something to say about one award in particular. That would have to be the Hart Trophy. Although it's no suprise to me that Sidney Crosby won the award, he didn't deserve it as much as Roberto Luongo did. I feel both the Devils and the Penguins could have gotten along without both these players. Maybe not as good as the teams were, but still great enough. The Canucks in my mind would be nothing without Roberto Luongo. He was their saving grace. He gave them a winning season and he brought them to the playoffs. Without him, I don't think it would be possible. Of course we have to give the Canucks credit. They do have some great players. The Hart trophy is given to the player most valuable to his team. That would be Roberto Luongo. And maybe next time someone will recognize this.

Now onto something I love. Interleague play. And it's not just any teams I love to see play. It's the Mets and the Yankees playing against each other. Battle of cross town rivals, the battle to see who reigns supreme in New York. Since I am a Mets fan, I root for my team. Yesterday the Mets kicked the Yankees ass. Great double play by Gomez. And the players were just killing Clemens. Aah sucks for you Clemens. And today the Yankees won. Tomorrow we will know who is the better team in New York. Now it's true the Mets have been in a slump and the Yankees have been red hot. But there's something about a series like this that brings out much more competiveness in people. So watch out Yanks, don't count the Mets out yet. I'll have more to say about this when the series ends. Whethers it's gloating or not. Stay tuned for that.

Until next time
