2009 NCAA baseball Super Regionals Are Ready To Rock!
June 5th will be the kick off for the 2009 NCAA baseball super regionals. While the college baseball teams don't have the press of "March Madness" - the games will be just as exciting. As a big MLB fan, I enjoy keeping an eye on some of the new prospects to watch out for.
Like March Madness, the Baseball Championship series field of 64 has now been trimmed down to 16 of the top teams. The top 16 will have head to head match-ups in eight different cities. Six of national seeds won their regionals will be host's to the super regionals sites, the other two sites will be hosted by the top regional seeds.
The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Southeastern Conference (SEC) sent the most teams to super regionals (four), followed by Conference USA (three). This year's matchups will include:
Louisville (47-16) at No. 2 Cal State Fullerton (45-14)
Arkansas (37-22) at Florida State (45-16)
Virginia (46-12-1) at Mississippi (43-18)
Rice (43-16) at No. 3 LSU (49-16)
TCU (39-16) at No. 1 Texas (44-13-1)
Southern Miss. (38-24) at No. 8 Florida (42-20)
Clemson (44-20) at No. 5 Arizona State (47-12)
East Carolina (46-18) at No. 4 North Carolina (45-16)
Best Of Three On To Omaha
The 8 winners of the super regionals best of 3 series will then head over to Johnny Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha Nebraska for the college world series! This series will start on June 13th and concluded on June 23 or 24th (if needed).
The college world series is a double elimination tournament. This will be represented by two separate four team brackets which will ultimatly determine the two national finalist! Last year's tournament ended with Fresno State beating Georgia 6 - 1 in the best of 7 series.
