Menopause is a condition in which there is a natural hormone (estrogen) deficiency.It is a state that occurs within the age of 45 -55 years. Generally after the age of 40 ovaries reduce their ability to produce sex hormones. As a result, the menstruation as well as other body functions of a women are disturbed. Finally the menstruation ceases permanently. This final pause of having periods is said to be total menopause. Needless to mention that this phase also marks the end of woman's  fertility . Suffering from Irregular periods, getting hot flashes, night sweats with restlessness , vaginal dryness and constant vaginal itching, and last but not the least is depression & mood swings like irritability ,crying -- all these are typical symptoms of menopause.

Osteoporosis (a condition in which thinning and weakening of bones take place), heart disease, and Alzheimer's disease starts showing its sign(progressive loss of memory and concentration is Alzheimer)these are the long term hazards that are caused by menopause. Menopause is an inevitable phenomenon in a every woman's life and she spends many years in post menopausal phase.

To come out of  these condition woman should perceive menopause as an opportunity to concentrate on certain new activities and bring out the best in her .Engagement of life in some other work would drag her out of the mood swings. Consequently,it is seen that a treatment of this transitional period of woman's life has gained more importance these days compared to past ,previously woman was all withdrawn and suffered many problems due to  menopausal phase in her life.
Symptoms of menopause are -
Anemia and Weakness
Feeling of intense heat oozing out of one's body (at certain times)
Profuse sweating at night causes restlessness
Excessive amount of hair fall
Irregular periods with either excessive or scanty bleeding
Increased frequency of having periods
vaginal dryness and itching
Joint pain
Oedema(fluid retention or puffiness in the body parts such as ankles abdomen and lungs)
Irritable nature
Sleeplessness Lassitude or listlessness
Generally 'H.R.T.' ( Hormone Replacement Therapy) is said to be the cure for this condition . In this treatment Estrogen and Progesterone is substituted with body's natural supply which have ceased due to menopause .The drawback of this therapy are immense ,Besides being expensive, H.R.T. is apprehended by most of the women because of it's associated risk of developing breast and uterine cancers. H.R.T. is also contraindicated in women for onset of hypertension, myocardial infarction, recent blood clots, migraine headaches, liver disease and gall bladder disease too.

Ayurveda,advocates treatment of menopausal syndrome by suggesting certain herbs and minerals and offers a reliable option to the conventional treatment for this condition.They use substances known as phyto estrogens that are estrogen kind of substances derived from plants. They mimic the actions of estrogen but are free from side-effects to the patient.

To compensate for the low calcium in your body during menopause, consume more of calcium rich foods such as skimmed milk , palak(spinach) & amala.

Consume adequate amount of unsaturated fat such as sunflower & olive oil or corn oils in your diet.
check your intake of tea or coffee( limit it to one to two cups daily.)
Do exercise as a daily routine work to keep yourself fit.and check your weight.
Do yoga and meditation to be stress free
