NOTHING VENTURED, NOTHING GAINED

Well, isn’t this just a familiar, yet phenomenal little cliche that’s packed with a punch so strong it’ll have your head reeling. Yeah, at least that’s my take on it. Whoever said everything in life is free? Do you recall such a person? If you do, give me his number - STAT!

All kidding aside, it’s true that in order for us to appreciate what we have in life, we first must work hard at obtaining it. Doesn’t sound too appetizing, but anything worthwhile never is. Guess what? The rewards are greater and getting there makes it that much more sweeter at the end. Just stating the obvious, I know. I just felt compelled to reiterate this life’s lesson for the masses, in case you have the tendency of giving up on life’s idiosyncrasies like I do from time to time.

I, for one, am a hedonistic creature, an epicurean even. What that means is that I relish in personal pleasure of all that life has to offer - whether it’s physical, emotional, mental, or inner well-being. Oh, no - not any of my senses is spared from my rapacious nature. My case in point is that I go after the things I want, the things that I know will make me happy. So in order for me to heighten my own sense of personal pleasure, I seek it out. I’m not a pusillanimous individual that I can’t just venture out there just to have life pass me by. No way, Jose. Not good enough for me.

Albeit sometimes, life plays a cruel joke on me and tosses me a curve ball and laughs at my face when the catch is out of my reach because it mocks me for being only 5’2” tall. Where’s the step stool when you need one, right?

For instance, right now I’m out of a job and have been seeking employment for nearly two months in my field of specialty. I’ve met up with placement agencies, surfed the web for online classifieds, got the Sunday paper, looked in the phone book and placed calls to prospective companies, hand-delivered my resume in person for the 4th time to this one local company (e.g. when my faxes and left messages weren’t getting acknowledged), and even conducted numerous business meetings with this one contact in particular to the point of stalking him. Yeah, I’m surprised I’m not arrested yet. This, my gnarly pies, is what is obviously beyond my control. I cannot light a flame under our economy’s ass to tell it to hurry up and pull out our fellow Americans from the entrapment of this quicksand we’ve been stuck in for the past year or so. Not my job, but if it were, I wouldn’t be sitting here right now writing this blog because I’d be working.

In conclusion, if you want something badly enough, you must take it - regardless of the risks or obstacles that my trample you along the way. You may have hurties (my made up word, you like?), but a boo-boo nonetheless that plain ol’ Band-Aid can’t patch up. Just think on the positive consequences of this because ultimately, this will count towards your happiness and self-pleasure.

Thanks for reading.
