Windows startup process is consisted of a series of steps. The boot loader NTLDR accesses the boot disk file system, starts Ntoskrnl.exe and then loads the boot-time drivers into the memory. For the process to succeed, all Windows startup files should exist in healthy state. The system might render unbootable if these files are missing or corrupted. You fail to access data that is stored on the disk. The prime solution to such problems is to use Windows installation disk to repair. However if it fails, you should reinstall Windows, which erases all the existing files and folders. To restore the lost data, use an updated data backup or a powerful Data Recoverytool to scan and recover it.

To illustrate, suppose you use a Windows 2000-based computer system. When trying to start your computer, you might receive the below error message:

NTDETECTd”

Or

Ntdetect d”

After encountering this error, you cannot boot into the system and access the data stored.

Cause

The error occurs as Windows startup files are missing or damaged.

Solution

You should follow these steps to isolate the given behavior:

  • If a Windows 2000 installation CD is available, insert it to boot the computer from. For this, you need to edit the BIOS settings and press any key when prompted to do so

  • At 'Welcome to Setup' screen, you should press R to start Windows repair process

  • As you receive the 'Repair Options', you need to press R in order to start Emergency Repair process

  • Perform Fast Repair by pressing F and follow the instructions as appear on screen

If the above steps work correctly, your system will boot at next start. However if it fails, you are suggested to reinstall the operating system while making sure that you have a good backup of your important data.

For any reason if you face backup concerns, consider using a Disk Recovery Software. These are special-purposed tools built with high-end Data Recovery technology to recover lost and missing data by providing graphically-rich user interface. The software serve as suitable and safe Partition Recovery applications.
