A Year of Obama Failures
In a article found in the New York Times called, Assessing Barack Obama, By David Johnston, Mr. Johnston gives an in depth review of the Presidents first year in office. It is the closest, I have seen, the NY Times come to calling Obama a failure.
Though it is not a glowing review, by any stretch of the word, the attempts to excuse Obama of any responsibility or blame are blatant. Mr. Johnston does show himself to be a profound, if not professional, ass kisser in his weak assessment of Obama.
On Terrorism Suspects, Mr. Johnston points out that candidate Obama swore to close Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. But the man-child President "has gotten bogged down" and now "they have little chance of meeting the self-imposed deadline and admit privately that they underestimated the complexities involved."
On Energy and Environment Mr. J points out that Obama called for "transformation in the way the United States produces and consumes energy to address global warming" Neglecting to point out that it has been getting cooler as of late. But hat does that matter? Cap and Trade is nothing more than a tax and a pay off to Wall Street. Thus the "Trade" in the Cap and Trade.
Yet another excuse for the O from Mr. J "But the cap-and-trade proposal has stalled in Congress, stymied by industry lobbyists and regional concerns about job losses and higher energy prices." Damn those industry lobbyists and higher energy prices. Damn the jobs! Full speed ahead!
On the Middle EastMr. J says that Obama " has kept his campaign promise not to wait until the end of his administration to begin his effort to resolve the seemingly intractable Arab-Israeli conflict."
How? By gutting the Isrealis? Fortunately, our bumbling leader fails again "all of that activity has not yielded much so far."
Why so many of the Jews vote democrat, I will never know. Didn't they have enough of socialism with the National Socialist Party?
On Nuclear Proliferation the Obama plan is to move toward zero American nuclear weapons. But, " Over the past year, he has described the pathway, but has barely begun moving toward the goal."
On Iraq, the O vowed to pull out all combat troops within 16 months of his inauguration.
Mr. J states "It may end up being closer to 19 months."
Or never, 50,000 troops will remain. And they, "may be doing jobs that look a lot like combat."
On the Budget (Do we even want to go there?) In a way, Mr. J gets it right "In a sense, the economy’s problems provided him (Obama) an opportunity to make progress on other campaign pledges through the $787 billion two-year stimulus package that Congress passed a month after he took office."
He (Obama) was able to take over the car company's, banks, and Wall Street due to the "economy problems". Part of his plan to socialize America? To "Share the Wealth"?
On Social Issues, "Obama campaigned on the promise of a sharp break from the Bush era on social issues..." Let's just give this one to him. He has kept this promise. Morals be damned. Do what makes you feel good. Even if a baby has to die to make it so.
On Education, "Obama’s main education promises were to increase funding for early childhood education, improve the recruitment, training, and compensation of public school teachers, improve how Washington helps students pay for college, and overhaul the main federal law on public schools, No Child Left Behind."
That's all good, unless your a black kid on a voucher. Then you can forget it.
Though Mr. Johnson is not giving Obama a glowing review, for his first year in office, it is weak on criticism and high on excuses for the hopefully one term President.
The yellow streak that runs down the center of this article is as obvious as the left leaning slant of the paper from which it is found. Fun to read, yet not worth the proverbial paper it is written on.

What Grade Do You Give Obama? Why?
SimeyC,
Thanks for the in-site and yes, It is a "tried and tested excuse". None the less, it is an excuse. Obama was hailed as the man with "all the answers" as "The Answer" yet, none of his policies work, or, are good for America. Unless you think that government control, loss of freedoms, and a weaker America is the answer. Then, Obama needs no excuse, for he is doing a bang up job accomplishing just that.
I read the Times every single day. It gets me riled up and I'm ready to write my hub...

My only comment is that the same could be said for any first year president - the first year or 18 months are always said to be the most difficult as they are 'bogged' down cleaning up the mess of the previous president - that is always the case and will always be...whether it's true or not, it's a tried and tested excuse. So the first year is over - let's forget it and start judging President Obama from now - he's had a year to settle in - can;t use the same old excuses now - so if nothing changes by next year then we can truly say he has failed....
BTW this is a bi-partisan comment - I'd say the same if McCain was president...
