The Popular Attractions of New York City
New York City is one of the most populated cities in the world. It is comprised of five major boroughs; The Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island. In each of these places tourists will find different cultures, massive traffic jams and skyscrapers galore. As if the enormous skyscrapers weren't enough, New York City is abuzz with activity night or day, making it easy to see why it earned the nickname, "the city that never sleeps." Simply walking around in such a place can be overwhelming, much less deciding what activities and sites should be a priority to visit. Planning a personal vacation to NYC can seem an enormous task in itself, but trying to plan a student tour can be downright intimidating.
Almost everyone who visits New York City, whether adult or student, will want to see the Statue of Liberty. This is one of the most famous landmarks in the United States, and for over 100 years, this statue has stood in the harbor welcoming all who enter to America. Riding the ferry to get to Liberty Island, where the statue is located is an exciting experience all by itself. Students will also enjoy visiting Ellis Island. This was once the main entry facility for immigrants seeking to enter America. Numerous display, exhibits and videos will allow students to see what passing through immigration was like. And of course a group cannot visit NYC without a visit to the Empire State Building. This 102 story building was the tallest building in the world for more than forty years. After the destruction of the World Trade Centers, it again became the tallest building in New York. The building has observatories at the 86th and 102nd floor, and offers a breathtaking view of the city.
For some outdoor activities try a visit to the famous Central Park. This park is one of the most-visited parks in the United States, and is a nice break from the bustle of city life. Visitors can picnic, take a leisurely stroll or play on multiple playgrounds. The New York Botanical Garden is another option for an outdoor activity. This Garden is one of the premiere botanical gardens in the world, housing over 48 gardens and spanning 250 acres.
There are several important museums that students may find of interest. One of the most popular museums is the Metropolitan Museums of Art, which contains over 2 million works of art, including sculptures, paintings and photographs from Medieval Europe to the present. Taking in a show on Broadway, one of the many theaters located on 42nd avenue, may be something to consider as well. On their own time, students may enjoy shopping on Fifth Avenue, or visiting a popular place such as Times Square, or the Rockefeller Center.
The key to planning a successful trip to New York City is to remember that your group will not be able to see everything. Focusing on the most important landmarks and attractions will help your group get an idea of the city's history and layout, as well suggest activities that might interest them, should they every visit NYC in the future.

As a native New Yorker who loves my city very much, I must add The Museum of Natural History. IT is the ONE! You also shouldn't miss FAO Schwartz if you have a kid, or one in your heart. GREAT HUB!

I had the unique pleasure back some years ago to have been in one of the Twin Towers obviously long before 9-11, as well as the Empire State and Chrysler buildings. While I am leery of tall places, after a while I get my bearings and then look out the windows, enjoying the view.
Your articles are showing me that there are many places in New York I have yet to visit. Thanks! Another great hub!
