Nagarjuna's latest film, King, directed by Srinu Vaitla, had its first press meet on August 29, 2008, which happened to be the actor's 49th birthday. The director and storywriters Gopi and Kona Venkat (who's directing his debut flick, Nenu Tanu Aame, starring Madhavan) along with birthday boy Nagarjuna addressed the media. Kamakshi Kala Movies is producing this flick which set for a mid-December release. Srinu Vaitla wished Nagarjuna a very happy birthday and said, "Having made movies like Anandam, Dhee and Ready in my own style, I have got the opportunity to direct a Nagarjuna vehicle. The movie will meet all the criteria that Nagarjuna's fans have regarding their idol. We did not compromise on the subject quality or production values." In the context of the film, King doesn't mean ruler but a warrior or saviour, even a king among lovers, said Kona Venkat. The star scriptwriter elaborated, "The entire script is in tune with Nag's image. Though we (Gopi, Srinu Vytla and Venkat) prepared the script together, the credit of giving it the commercial touch and fantastic dramatisation goes to Srinu Vaitla. Our hard work will give good results. We thank producer Sivaprasad Reddy for his commendable cooperation as the project is being executed with commitment." Nagarjuna stated, "King is shaping up to be a cool movie. Srinu Vaitla and his team took extraordinary care in incorporating some of the elements that are their stock in trade. The prominent elements of love and comedy are very much present. I can say with confidence that Srinu Vaitla really did a wonderful job for King. I am very happy today, as we are introducing Naga Chaitanya as hero soon." Nagarujuna expressed a wish to work soon alongside his son, provided a suitable script comes along. In the meantime, he announced that producer Siva Prasad Reddy and Srinu Vaitla are already in process of working on their next film project starring Naga Chaitanya. He also said King will excel. Devi Sri Prasad is scoring the music for King; his previous melodies of Nagarjuna's films Manmathudu and Mass are going strong. Trisha promises to be simply superb as Nagarjuna's love interest. Finally, producer Siva Prasad Reddy wished Nagarjuna and said he would talk about the film on the expected release date, December 19, 2008.
