Namiki Pens: Nippon Art vs. Sterling - Japanese elegance
61Namiki Pens - Nippon Art vs. Sterling - Japanese elegance
Namiki was the original name of Pilot Pen Company, created by its founder Ryosuke Namiki, a professor at the Tokyo Merchant Marine College. He started producing pens when he found that drawing pens available those days were not up to the mark. Namiki pens were named after the company's former corporate name, in recognition of its unique features and trademarks that make it a signature series with an endless list of credits under its belt.
Namiki pen produced in Pilot's Hiratsuka factory in Central Japan stands out by its subtle application of the Japanese art of Maki-e, which creates breathtaking artistic effects on lacquer and gold powder, making it the best possible pen you can dream of! The coatings of the decorative lacquer varies from 8- 10 with some high- end models like Emperor bragging of as many as 60 coats of lacquer, making it a priceless possession of all times!
The Nippon Models are noted for its Japanese motifs and characters etched against a stunning black lacquer backdrop making it a piece of fine art rather than an ordinary pen! The pens have smooth 14kt nibs and the barrel is decorated with seven layers of Urushi lacquer, which in itself is a tedious process involving twenty steps to complete!
There are many enchanting models to go for such as the Phoenix. It owes its name to the Chinese legend; Phoenix considered a symbol of heaven's favor, virtue and grace and is worshipped as sacred. Namiki infuses life into these mystical creatures through the Phoenix models of writing instruments. Richly bedecked in Hira Maki-e, with exquisite metallic hues and shimmering fine particles, Phoenix is an exclusive celebrity pen for the creative minded!
The Nippon Dragon and Cumulus is another offering from the coffers of Namiki that flaunts of Maki-e décor involving a complex 20 -step process to set seven layers of exuberant Urushi lacquer, breathing life to Dragon and Cumulus- symbols of good fortune and power.
