Nana Hotel in Bangkok - Should You or Shouldn't You?

Love it or hate it, the Nana Hotel is often debated in travel forums and hotel review sites as either one of the worst or the best hotels to stay in Bangkok.

The Nana Hotel is located on Sukhumvit Soi 4. Sukhumvit is a very popular stretch of road filled with high end commercial and residential dwellings. Right here you can find a good deal of restuarants and bars catering to tourist with their lady or ladies of the night.

It's a area popular with Bangkok's expats and draws millions of male tourist from all over the world.

But what makes Nana Hotel so well known is that it's a very popular area to pick up freelance prostitutes. You can practically find them at all hours of the day. But you will see them starting to gather after 7pm and the peak time is around 1pm when most of the bar girls that did not find a customer for the night converge on the Nana Hotel's parking lot at the front entrance. By 2am there are hundreds of women outside waiting for customers, cat calling at the hundreds of men in search of company. One things for certain, this is not a hotel to bring your wife and kids to.

The most popular reason why men stay in Nana Hotel is because of the hotel's parking lot. Another reason why Nana Hotel is so popular is because it's just a stones throw away from Nana Entertainment Plaza. It's a 3 story neon haven of sex and booze. Filled to the rafters with bar girl filled go-go bars and roaming men in search of booze, women or lady-boys (transvestites).

There are just so many varieties of bars to check out around the Nana Hotel area that you will never be left with a night of boredom.

My Personal Take on Nana Hotel

As of writing you can book a standard room at the Nana Hotel for 1450THB, about $41 USD per night. The rate includes free breakfast, a few bottles of water for drinking or brushing your teeth and daily newspaper every day. The Nana Hotel has a guest friendly policy. Meaning you are allowed to bring in a bar girl or freelancer without getting hit with a 500 Baht joiner fee like other hotels in Bangkok do.

I always check out my friends rooms and each and every one of them look like it's stuck in a 1970's time warp. Really, for the 1450THB you're paying per night here at the Nana Hotel you can get a better room in newer hotel. Granted you won't be near parking lot and Nana Entertainment Plaza.

Now the biggest question is "Are the rooms clean?" My answer is, yes and no. I'm not saying that the housekeeping crew here are lazy. I'm saying that it's understandably hard to clean up a room full of drunken men after a night of sexual debauchery.

With that said, my friend's rooms were just fine. But the carpets, walls and furniture had a few questionable stains. The bathrooms were clean because it had tile surfaces. Otherwise I wouldn't recommend staying here at all for a longer period of time. Not unless you're really hard core and don't mind.

There is a nifty little pool on the fourth floor great for a commonly hot day in Bangkok. It can get quite packed since guests always bring company, so we never did get a chance to jump in. Looks really clean and well maintained though.

One of the biggest complaints about the Nana Hotel in Bangkok is about the front reception staff. Complaints that they act with indifferent attitudes and have severe snooty behaviours.

I know the reason why. After all the years of living and working in Bangkok you have to understand that Thai society is very class based. And since wealth is associated with being well dressed you'll get more respect.

What I'm getting at is whenever I go with my friends to check in at the hotel I see people who look like they just literally crawled out of the sewer. And many looked like they were headed straight to the pool dressed in swim shorts, tank top and flip flops with their luggage in tow.

Being the good friend I am I informed my friends to dress as presentable as possible. A clean button down shirt, pressed pants and polished shoes is all you need. And guess what. It worked. They did not experience the guest abuse most people complained about.

If you really think about it, looking presentable at any type of establishment often gets you better treatment and more service then a slob.

My final verdict about the Nana Hotel is if you want to be right up in the face of night life action that Nana has to offer then by all means stay there. However, if you're looking for a hotel to rest and relax in a nice quiet neighborhood then this may not be the right choice for you.

I had so much fun in Bangkok!!!! And my (male) friend from Singapore came in to meet me (he has an office in Bangkok) and told me tha Nana hotel was a little wild but his friends usually stay there ( I stayed a few doors away). We went to Patpong as well - the women treated me so well. I am a female by the way - and they pampered me, a massage and bouquets of flowers, free beer, etc. Wow! I looooove Singapore too. I could go on and on about my many adventures.

How about sharing some more info?

Have good clean food!

LOL - $41 is a lot for grubby 70's decor - I paid about the same for a 4star place (last minute) - admittedly - miles from anywhere - (I never found out where cause it was just an overnight and I took taxis). Nice review!

Hi Lissie, thanks for dropping by. It's true you can get a great room in a newish hotel for $41 US. Next time you're in Bangkok I recommend Dawin Hotel, it's in the same area as Nana Hotel but way newer and more modern. Most people stay in Nana hotel for the conveinence to the NEP. Thanks for visiting!
