EXTRA EXTRA

Nov. 26, 2006

For those of you that stayed the course and are finished or almost finished, my hat is off to you. Way to go. (Throws confetti). As for me, I had to choose between the Hubpages contest and Nanowrimo, and let's face it, Hubpages is paying real money. Also, it didn't help any that I lost a week to illness and four days to travel. Then by the time Thanksgiving rolled around I was just plain burned out. I only managed to make it to 10,000 words.

I did enjoy the local Nanowrimos meeting for dinner at Mexicasa. And I'm sure we'll have a party of some kind next Wednesday night.

Nov. 9, 2006:

Tonight I'm going to be at:

Portillo's Restaurant tonight in Buena Park, California

8390 La Palma Ave

714.220.6400

Nearest huge cross street is Beach Blvd.

(On La Palma between Stanton and Dale in the Walmart Parking lot).

If anyone wants to join me, I plan to be there about 5:30 and stay until I get sick of writing.

They have a big menu of hot dogs, hamburgers and salads and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I'll decorate the table with balloons so you can find me.

Nov. 1, 2006We had our first write-in last night (Nov. 1) at a Starbuck's. About twelve people showed up. One of them had been there since 8 AM typing away on her manual typewriter. We definitely looked like a bunch of geeky writers.

Over 70,000 people worldwide have signed up to participate in Nanowrimo. You could still be one of them.

If you want to follow along with my progress, here's a link that should open my profile. http://www.nanowrimo.org/userinfo.php?uid=122363

If it doesn't work, let me know please.

Write like a bear is chasing you.

Every November the folks at http://www.nanowrimo.org/ have a speed writing contest where entrants race to get 50,000 words written in one month. It's sheer madness. They use the proceeds to build libraries for children in impoverished countries. I entered last year at the tail end of the contest and didn't finish in time. This year I was really looking forward to it, but just got a new job and there goes all my great plans. I'm signing up anyway because I can't stand to not be a part of it. All the details are over on their website. Don't miss the fun.

Progress charts

You are supposed to wait until Nov. 1 to start writing your novel and posting your progress to the nanowrimo website. They have a cool system of showing your progress on bar graphs and also you get a page to put excerpts on. It's satisfying to see the number of words grow and grow and to network with other people in the forums and meet other local writers at cafes and such.

I was just about to do a hub on NANOWRIMO. I thought maybe I should search first to see if one has already been done. I tried it last year myself, but fell way short. I think I will probably sign up again also. I have many friends who tried it and quite a few who made it. Wrtie ON!!!

If you want to write a new Hub on it you should. Every year they make new additions to the site and you could give it a fresh spin.

Progress Report

Oh dear.

I'm supposedly writing a 'romance' and so far I have no leading men. I'm almost 5,000 words into it and so far I have 3 bank robbers, 2 gay men, and someone's brother. What does that say about my psychological make-up? I don't believe in soulmates or no man can live up to my romantic expectations?
