Hidden ninja villages represent the country's military power. These hidden villages occupy a large mass of land and their powers are immense, they are known as the five great ninja powers. Each country is governed by a kage, these ninjas reign over tens of thousands of ninjas that exists in their respective country

Village Hidden in the Leaves

Konohagakure, Village Hidden in the Leaves, or Konoha for short, is one of the five great ninja villages. As such, it is one of five villages with a Kage as its leader, known as the Hokage. On a mountain overlooking the villages from the north, the faces of every Hokage are carved into the rock.

Although Konoha, much like the country in which it resides, has been peaceful for the past sixteen years and has grown accustomed to that peace, it remains one of the most powerful villages in existence, with an overall ninja population much greater than that of any other village, and therefore has great military power and influence.

Villgae hidden in the Sand

Sunagakure no Sato , Village Hidden in the Sand, is located in the Land of Wind. As one of the five great ninja villages, Sunagakure has a Kage as its leader known as the Kazekage. The ninja from this village seem to specialize in Wind Release techniques and the Puppet Technique. Gaara, the current Kazekage and the former Jinchūriki of the One-Tailed Shukaku hails from this village. As do the legendary puppeteers Chiyo and Sasori.

Village Hidden in the Rocks

Iwagakure no Sato, also known as the Village Hidden in the Rocks, is located in the the Land of Earth. As one of the five great ninja villages, Iwagakure has a Kage as its leader known as the Tsuchikage.

The ninja from this village seem to specialize in Earth Release techniques. The rocky mountain ranges that surround the village and country provide a natural stronghold. The village profits from this advantageous position and is proud of its strong defences. The Akatsuki member Deidara hailed from this village.

Village Hidden in the Clouds

Kumogakure no sato, Village Hidden in the Clouds, is located in the Land of Lightning. As one of the five great ninja villages, Kumogakure has a Kage as its leader known as the Raikage. The ninja from this village seem to specialize in Lightning Release techniques. It is located on a high mountain, literally hidden in the clouds.

Yugito Nii, the former Jinchūriki of the Two-Tailed Demon Cat hailed from this city, as does Kirābī, the Jinchūriki of the Eight-Tailed Beast, making Kumogakure the only village known to have had two Tailed Beasts under their control.

Unlike some other villages, Kumogakure doesn't seem to hate their Jinchūriki. Because of this Yugito Nii and Kirābī are able to control their Jinchūriki with full control.

Village Hidden in Sound

Otogakure, Village Hidden in Sound, is Orochimaru's personal village, founded for the express purpose of collecting ninja for his experiments and quest to learn jutsu. Three Sound ninja (Dosu Kinuta, Zaku Abumi, and Kin Tsuchi), under Orochimaru's orders, entered the Chunin Exam with the goal of killing Sasuke Uchiha. However, Orochimaru was actually using them as test subjects for Sasuke's power after Orochimaru gave him the cursed seal. Its ninja use a diverse amount of different jutsu. The Sound Ninja are also key antagonists of the series on par with the Akatsuki.

Village Hidden in the Rain

Amegakure no Sato, Village Hidden in the Rain, is a small village located in the Land of Rain. It seems to be a rather loosely knit village, befitting the destabilized country, as a fair number of its ninja are missing, as the infamous Akatsuki leader Pain and his partner Konan originate from this village.

Lacking a Kage leader, Amegakure was once led by Hanzo the Great Salamander, though he was killed during the Land of Rain's civil war by the Akatsuki member, Pain. Pain now uses the village as his base of operations for Akatsuki and reigns as an enigmatic godlike figure over the townspeople. Those loyal to the former Amegakure attack the village on occasion in an attempt to assassinate Pain, though their efforts are never successful.
