National Days in July
68There is a National Day for pretty much everything nowadays. I have a bad habit of finding out what National Day it is at the end of the day. What good is that? For instance how could I enjoy National Fried Chicken Day after I had already had burgers for dinner and they weren't even chicken burgers. I decided that I would write this hub and post some of the National Days to it so we can all enjoy them.
July 31 - National Parent's Day
July 31 is National Parent's Day. This is a very sad day for me and a very fitting name for a National holiday. Today is the day that my Mom died, eight years ago. This is a very, very sad time for me. To be National Parent's Day on the day my Mom died seems very fitting though. I miss my Mom so much and I have not fully dealt with her death because to me she died way too early. My Mom was 59 years old. I will spend this day being sad and probably a lot of emotions will come my way from anger that she is gone to feeling glad that Mom isn't suffering any more.
July 30 - National Cheesecake Day
July 30 is National Cheesecake Day. What an awesome day to celebrate!!! I love cheesecake. It is so creamy and so good tasting. Oh, my mouth is watering right now thinking about it. My favourite cheesecake is chocolate and my second favourite is cherry. I have made both a chocolate cheesecake and a cherry cheesecake from scratch and they both tasted so good. I will definitely had to figure out how to get my fix of cheesecake on this day.
July 29 - Cheese Sacrifice Purchase Day
July 29 is Cheese Sacrifice Purchase Day. This day is another strange day. I am assuming that at some point in time someone had decided that they didn't want to buy cheese this day and decided to make a national holiday out of it. I don't eat too much cheese so chances are I won't have to worry about this day at all.
July 28 - National Milk Chocolate Day
July 28 is National Milk Chocolate Day. I love milk chocolate. It is so creamy and delicious. The best chocolate in the world. My favourite chocolate is Lindor. Oh, that is chocolate to die for. I will so be taking part in national milk chocolate day, just try to stop me.
July 27 - Take Your Pants For A Walk Day
July 27 is Take Your Pants For A Walk Day. I don't have any intentions of taking my pants for a walk on this day. I kind of like my pants so I want to keep them. This is a very strange name for a holiday. I guess that if we have any pants that we don't want anymore or don't like them anymore this would be the day to get rid of them or "take them for a walk".
July 26 - All Or Nothing Day
July 26 is All Or Nothing Day. I can definitely relate to this holiday because when I woke up on July 26, I thought I could conquer the world and have it all but then as the day dragged on I found out that all my plans had fallen through and I ended up with nothing. I felt very let-down and very depressed.
July 25 - Threading The Needle Day
July 25 is Threading The Needle Day. This day will serve as a reminder to me to finish sewing my grandson's quilt. I have it half sewn up so far but I do need to get working on. I just don't have the motivation these days to do anything. I've got to snap out of this mode I'm in and get to work on it.
July 24 - Amelia Earhart Day
July 24 is Amelia Earhart Day. I had known that Amelia Earhart was a female pilot but I really didn't know too much about her life. Amelia was the second person to fly solo over the Atlantic Ocean and the first person to fly across the Pacific Ocean. Amelia was attempting to circle the equator but her plane disappeared two days short of the trip. I would say that Amelia Earhart was a very brave woman and it is too bad that she did not get to finish her adventure.
July 23 - National Vanilla Ice Cream Day
July 23 is National Vanilla Ice Cream Day. This summer has been extremely hot in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. It is a good thing there is a National Vanilla Ice Cream Day. Vanilla ice cream is a good choice for flavour because you can add chocolate sauce or fruit flavoured syrup to it to spice it up. My favourite vanilla ice cream is Dairy Queen soft-servce ice cream!!!
July 22 - National Ratcatcher's Day
July 22 is National Ratcatcher's Day. What a fitting holiday for this day? Well it is a day late though and it actually wasn't a rat that we caught, it was a mouse. Ewwwww!!!!! Rats or mice same thing to me. Gross!!!! Have you ever seen on television where a women will stand on a chair because there was a mouse in the house. Well, that was ALMOST me. I wanted to stand on a chair. I certainly did not want the mouse anywhere near my feet, ewwww!!!
July 21 - National Tug-Of-War Tournament Day
July 21 is National Tug-Of-War Tournament Day. I have never seen or participated in a tug-of-war. However, I think a tug-of-war would be a lot of fun. I think I would much rather watch one though instead of participating in one because then I could cheer the team that I wanted to win. I'm not a very strong person. That is why I wouldn't want to participate in a tug of war.
July 20 - Ugly Truck Contest Day
July 20 is Ugly Truck Contest Day. I have seen plenty of ugly trucks in my time but what I don't understand is how someone with an ugly truck would want to show it off in a contest. If I owned an ugly truck, I'd want to hide it. I would definitely not want to show it off.
July 19 - National Flitch Day
July 19 is National Flitch Day. National Flitch Day is an old-fashioned holiday in where if you were a married couple and could live in harmony and stayed "true" to one another for one full year, you were given some bacon. Not too many married couples were able to do this and not much bacon was given out. These days, I don't think there would even be any point in celebrating this holiday. There are just so many stress factors that cause a marriage breakdown these days that so many marriages themselves, don't even last for one year.
July 18 - National Ice Cream Day and National Caviar Day
July 18 is National Ice Cream Day and National Caviar Day. Now, definitely, without a doubt there is no way that either of these two food items should be included in the same breath let alone the same day for a national day. Sorry, ice cream and caviar just do not go together.
Thankfully these two holidays are separate holidays although they do fall on the same day. I will celebrate National Ice Cream Day but not National Caviar Day because I do not like caviar. I have never had caviar and I don't think it is something that I ever would want either. Caviar is raw salmon eggs. No thank you. I prefer my salmon, fried, baked or grilled.
For National Ice Cream Day I will go to the Dairy Queen. The Dairy Queen has the best ice-cream in the whole world. I love their ice-cream. It is so soft and silky.
July 17 - National Peach Ice Cream Day
July 17 is National Peach Ice Cream Day. Oh that sounds so heavenly. Peach ice cream. Dairy Queen here I come!!! Get my order ready.
A nice bowl of peach ice cream would be so good on such a hot day. It has been in the 30's here for the last few weeks now and ice cream has become a staple for us, just to cool us down. Now, I should explain to you about our weather here because 30's might not seem that warm to some of you but you gotta remember that Canada keeps it's temperatures in Celsius so 30 Celsuis is like 86 Fahrenheit.
July 16 - International Juggling Day
July 16 is International Juggling Day. Hey, I'd like to know if juggling a full-time job as a writer and running a household count for this day, hee hee. Somehow, I'm thinking it won't count. Oh well, I tried.
I think International Juggling Day is to celebrate those people that do juggle things like balls, fire, knives, chainsaws etc. I watched an episode of America's Got Talent and saw this guy juggling chainsaws that were running. Now, that was scarey. One slip up and I wouldn't want to know what could happen.
July 15 - National Tapioca Pudding Day and Respect Canada Day
July 15 is National Tapioca Pudding Day and Respect Canada Day. Now the tapioca pudding I can definitely do without but respect Canada is something I do each and every day. I am Canadian, I was born in Canada and have always lived in Canada. Respecting Canada is something I do each and every day of my life because it is my country. It is just a natural thing for me to do. I would never not respect my own country.
I respect the people in my country, I respect our values, I respect our wildlife and I respect our forests, lakes and rivers. I respect the fact that I have a freedom of speech. I respect the fact that I can travel throughout my country for days on end. My country is vast and has a lot of natural resources in it still.
Canada needs and deserves respect for everything it has given us Canadians. I feel very fortunate for having such a beautiful country to live in.
July 14 - National Nude Day
July 14 is National Nude Day. Oh, I can see already the vast majority of males that just love this day. Sorry, guys but I won't be taking any part in this day. I prefer to have my clothes on. Why show everything you've got all at once anyway? Why not just let the guy use his imagination?
July 13 - Fool's Paradise Day
July 13 is Fool's Paradise Day. Okay, I know that I am not a fool or at least I hope I'm not but I don't have a paradise. I am under so much stress lately, I definitely need a paradise. I need a place I can escape to, somewhere that I can just get away from life's problems. If a fool can find a paradise then maybe there is still hope for me yet?
July 12 - National Pecan Pie Day
July 12 is National Pecan Pie Day. Now, first of all, I have to admit, I have never had a slice of pecan pie in my life. However, it does seem like a pie that I might want to try. I love pies that are freshly baked and straight out of the over. There is nothing more tasty. I think I would definitely add some whipped cream or maybe even better than that, a scoop of ice cream to my pie. Oh, this is making me hungry. I think I have to go find myself a pecan pie.
July 11 - National Cheer Up The Lonely Day
July 11 is National Cheer Up The Lonely Day. What a wonderful idea for a National Day. There are so many people who are lonely in this world and I can just think that being cheered up by someone, even a stranger, could be such a lift in spirits. I have led a very lonely life at times so I knoww hat it is like to be lonely. I wish, when I was going through some rough times that I had someone cheer me up. I think it would have made it a lot easier to deal with my problems.
I'm going to suggest that everyone that reads this hub should try to cheer up at least one lonely person on July 11. I am also going to suggest that if you do cheer someone lonely up, post your results here in the comments section so that everyone can see. If I see someone lonely on July 11, I will definitely try to cheer them up.
July 10 - Clerihew Day
July 10 is Clerihew Day. Clerihew is a four line poem. This day was created to celebrate the birthdate of the creator of the first clerihew, Edmund Clerihew Bentley. The first two lines rhyme and the last two lines rhyme. The poem must be about someone so it should contain their name in the first line. Here is an example of one that I just wrote:
King Henry the 8th
Always had good faith
That each of his wives
Would not live long lives
July 9 - National Sugar Cookie Day
July 9 is National Sugar Cookie Day. I definitely think I could handle this day. Sugar cookies are so good. I love the little glistening bites of sugar on top of each sugar cookie. I am not fond of hard cookies but I will make an exception to that with sugar cookies. My favourite sugar cookies are the ones I bake myself. I love baking cookies. It is so much fun to play with the cookie dough.
July 8 - Video Games Day
July 8 is Video Games Day. I am definitely not a fan of this day because I am not into video games. I have witnessed with my own eyes, violence that can come of teenagers and young children playing these games. I noticed a mood behaviour and then with that goes the attitude change when I saw a teenager play Grand Theft Auto video games. On the otherhand, I have witnessed a lot of people in my lifetime have a lot of fun with video games. The incidences of violence that I have witnessed has, however, turned me right off video games for life. I do want nothing to do with them. There is always one bad apple that does ruin things for everyone else though. Not all video games have violence associated with them. There are really good educational video games such as Dance, Dance Revolution and now there are also fitness video games such as Wii Fit.
July 7 - National Strawberry Sundae Day
July 7 is National Strawberry Sundae Day. Now, this is another national day I will not forget. I love ice cream. Even though strawberry sundae's are not my favourite, I would still love to have an ice cream sundae. My favourite ice cream parlour is the good old Dairy Queen. I love DQ's soft serve ice cream. My favourite ice cream sundae is chocolate. I don't like nuts or whipped cream or cherries on my sundae, I just like ice cream and chocolate syrup, simple but so good.
July 6 - National Fried Chicken Day
July 6 is National Fried Chicken Day. Now, I love fried chicken. I will definitely make sure that I go to Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner on July 6. KFC is the best fried chicken franchise here in Canada and whenever I hear the words "fried chicken", my mouth starts to water and my mind goes directly to KFC. I love getting a big barrel of chicken with coleslaw and fries. I think I have a craving for KFC. I think Colonel Sanders makes the best fried chicken ever.
July 5 - Workaholic Day
July 5 is Workaholic Day. I think I totally missed this day because I worked so hard. I do remember that I did get a lot done on Workaholic Day. If I was paid overtime or at least a decent wage for the work I do, I would have made a lot of money that day. As it is, for what I do, my wages are more than adequate. I don't get monetary payment for the work I do, I get paid by comments on my articles stating that people enjoy reading my work. Those comments mean a lot to me.
July 4 - National Country Music Day and Tom Sawyer Fence-Painting Day
July 4 is National Country Music Day and Tom Sawyer Fence-Painting Day. Okay, now the National Country Music Day, I can totally understand but the Tom Sawyer Fence-Painting Day, now, that is definitely a strange day. So, I guess on every July 4th, we should crank up our stereos, ipods, or mp3 players and get our paint brushes out to paint those old fences that we've been neglecting. I think you could listen to rock music though instead of country if you wanted to, unless, of course, you like country music. I am not a country music fan so if I were to get my paint brush out, it would definitely be rock and roll music I would be listening to. Apparently, in the Mark Twain book, Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer did get other people to help paint his aunt's fence.
July 3 - Stay Out Of The Sun Day and Compliment Your Mirror Day
July 3 is Stay Out Of The Sun Day and Compliment Your Mirror Day. Now, this has to be one weird day. For starters, this is July right. July is summer. Summer brings the sun. Why on earth would anyone want to stay out of the sun in July? Have we not waited all winter just so we could enjoy the sun? So, I'm assuming that the reason you want to stay out of the sun on July 3 is so you can compliment your mirror. Let's face it, too much sun may cause wrinkles and blotches on your skin. So, let's say you forgot it was Stay out the Sun Day on July 3 and then you spent time in the sun. That does mean you'd better stay away from a mirror that day. My suggestion would be yes, stay away from the mirror. If I were the one coming up with this day, I think I would have made this day in the middle of November or possibly even December because that would just make more sense to me. That way you'd have an excuse to stay out of the sun because there would be no sun in the middle of winter.
July 2 - Visitation Of The Virgin Mary Day
July 2 is Visitation Of The Virgin Mary Day. This day celebrates the visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Saint Elizabeth. It is also the feast that commemorates this visit. I, myself, do not know of this visit or the significance of it but if it is a National Day then it must be pretty significant.
July 1 - Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day and Build A Scarecrow Day
July 1 is Creative Ice Cream Flavor Day. I could definitely go for this day, seeing as this is summer and everyone needs some ice cream to keep cool on a nice hot day. My creative ice cream flavor would have to include something with chocolate in it. Chocolate is my favourite flavor of ice cream.I am thinking blueberry chocolate mix maybe.
July 1 is also Build a Scarecrow Day. I could definitely use a scarecrow because in British Columbia we have a lot of crows. The crows here are not just little guys either. They are huge. If I was going to build a scarecrow he would have to be the biggest and ugliest scarecrow ever in order to keep away the big ugly crows that we have here. I do not like crows one bit. They are scary.

So on National Cheer Up the Lonely Day, I wanted to cheer someone up and it turned out that I'm the one that needed to be cheered up, however, nobody did. I am going through like the worst time in my life right now due to stress and family problems.I need hugs. Anybody got any?
