National Donut Day
67National Donut Day
June 5 was National Donut Day 2009 in the United States. Yum, yum donuts. I love donuts. I wish I lived in the United States. In Canada, we don't have a National Donut Day.
We do have a Tim Horton's Camp Day, which was celebrated on June 3, 2009. On Camp Day, Tim Hortons donut chain, the largest in Canada, donates proceeds of their sales of coffee for that day to help thousands of children go to either a summer camp or a winter camp.
Besides selling coffee and donuts, Tim Horton's sells chilli, homemade soups, sandwiches and just in the past couple of years, they have started selling breakfast sandwiches. I, myself love their breakfast sandwiches, especially the ones that are made on the freshly baked homemade biscuits. They are so good.
We do have several other donut chains here in Canada. We have Krispy Kreme and some Dunkin Donut locations here in Canada. There are a few other ones too. As you can probably tell, we Canadians love donuts.
Should Canada Have A National Donut Day?
JLHanna, a 22 year old college student in Ottawa, Ontario and I, a 48 year old woman living in British Columbia, Canada, had a discussion about the issue of whether or not there should be a National Donut Day in Canada.
Introduction
Me - I wish that I lived in the United States because I would love it if Canada had a National Donut Day.
JLHanna - I don't wish I lived in the United States but I do wish Canada had a National Donut Day.
1. Do/don't you wish there was a National Donut Day in Canada?
Me - Yes, I wish there was a National Donut Day in Canada.
JLHanna - It would be great if there was a National Donut Day in Canada.
2. Why do/don't you wish there was a National Donut Day in Canada?
Me - I wish there was a National Donut Day in Canada because Canadians love donuts. We have a donut shop on almost every street corner. Donuts are our favourite snack food and they come in so many flavours. How could anyone get sick of eating them?
JLHanna - Between my apartment and the college there is about 3 Tim Hortons, Canadians definately love their donuts. I don't know very many people in Canada who don't love donuts. I love all the different flavours of donuts and never know which donut to choose. I have a free donut coupon on top of my fridge and I havn't used it yet because I'm just not sure what kind I want to eat.
3. What is your favourite donut chain?
Me - I love Krispy Kreme donuts the best. They are so good. Where I am living right now, we don't have Krispy Kreme here. I think the closest one would be a four hour drive but it would almost be worth the drive to get one.
JLHanna - There used to be a coffee shop close to my home town that used to make the best donuts ever. My dad and I use to stop in their whenever we were in town. They weren't a donut chain but they were good.
4. What are some of your favourite flavours of donuts?
Me - My favourite flavour of donut is chocolate dip. I love chocolate dipped donuts. I also like Boston cream donuts, too. They are so good. I also like the jelly-filled donuts with the icing sugar on them.
JLHanna - I think I love all the donut flavours, it's been so long since I had a donut I don't think I could name any off.
5. Besides donuts, what else do you buy in a donut shop?
Me - I usually get a soft drink when I purchase donuts. I am not a coffee or tea drinker and I really don't like juice either. I also like to buy other kinds of baked goods like cookies and brownies.
JLHanna - When I go to Tim Hortons it's always for the coffee. I don't think the coffee is all that great but it's sooo convienient.
Conclusion
Me - Even though donuts are a good snack, they are fattening and you should be careful how many of them you eat. However, I would be thrilled if we had a National Donut day here in Canada.
JLHanna - I feel the same way. Donuts are very fattening and should not be eaten every day. Many of the baked goods found at donut shops are just as bad. Donuts should be a once in a while snack but they are so irresistible.
