National Holidays in August
76There are lots of fun and interesting National Holidays in August. August is usually a nice hot summer month and a lot of these holidays do relate to that. I hope you enjoy this hub.
August 31 - National Trail Mix Day
August 31 is National Trail Mix Day. I, myself, do not like trail mix and that is probably because I do not like cereals. I find cereal to be very boring. I don't like how it gets soaked up in milk and becomes all soggy. To me, a trail mix would be a smarter way to eating cereal but I find there is just too much to bite into. There are too many raisins or too many nuts in it. I also find that trail mixes are too hard to chew, something I have a problem with because most times i have problems with my gums being sore.
August 30 - National Toasted Marshmallow Day
August 30 is National Toasted Marshmallow Day. I know a lot of people that do like toasting marshmallows on an open campfire. In fact, toasting marshmallows is a camping tradition. However, I don't like marshmallows all that much. I think it is because they are just too sticky and gooey and pretty hard to clean up off yourself.
August 29 - More Herbs, Less Salt Day
August 29 is More Herbs, Less Salt Day. This would be a very good day for heavy salt users to start cutting back on salt. I know a lot of people that use way too much salt on their food and I am sure it isn't good for them. I don't usually cook with salt. I usually use salt at the end to flavour my food. I don't put a lot of salt on my food, just a little. It would be way too salty with too much salt. I do like a lot of salt on my fries though and then I also like a lot of vinegar too.
It would probably be a good idea for heavy salt users to use different herbs on their foods instead of salt. There are a lot of different kinds of herbs and the only way to find out which ones you would like to eat would be to sample them. Eating herbs in place of salt would be a lot more healthier.
August 28 - World Sauntering Day
August 28 is World Sauntering Day. World Sauntering Day is a day to take your time and enjoy what you have around you. Go slowly, don't be in such a hurry your whole life. Take a leisurely stroll and take a deep breath. I think this day is a day that we all should definitely take the time to enjoy.
August 27 - Petroleum Day
August 27 is Petroleum Day. I guess on this day we are meant to drive and drive and drive, which is just fine with me because I love to drive. I love travelling. I would travel each and every day if I could. I would love to live a life on the road and just travel from one country to another. I don't care if it is travelling by car or airplane. I just want to travel.
August 26 - National Cherry Popsicle Day
August 26 is National Cherry Popsicle Day. It was always nice as a kid to have a refreshing cherry popsicle on a hot, hot day. It was very cool and very refreshing. Now that I am an adult, I don't eat popsicles anymore. It really doesn't matter what flavour it is, I just don't eat them anymore. I think popsicles are something that you can grow out of it over time.
August 26, 2009 - Kiss-And-Make-Up Day
August 26 is Kiss-And-Make-Up Day. This will be a very difficult day for me because I am not an argumentative person. I don't ever have to make-up after an argument because I don't get into arguments very often. Therefore, though, I do miss out on the make-up kisses. Maybe I should start causing little arguments just for those make-up kisses.
August 24 - Knife Day
August 24 is Knife Day. I think i will stay indoors and stay by myself on this day. I also think I am not going anywhere near the kitchen either. Knives are sometimes scary, especially long, sharp ones. I want no part of this day.
August 23 - National Spongecake Day
August 23 is National Spongecake Day. I love spongecake. It is so soft and spongy. I like spongecake with fresh strawberries and whipped cream on it. I like spongecake with a drizzle of melted chocolate on it. I love spongecakes all by themselves with nothing on them.
August 22 - Be An Angel Day
August 22 is Be An Angel Day. I will be an angel to my friends on Be An Angel Day. I will take care of my friends. My friends mean the world to me. If I saw a stranger in need, I would help them out too on Be An Angel Day. I will try to help out anyone I can on Be An Angel Day.
August 21 - National Spumoni Day
August 21 is National Spumoni Day. Spumoni is an Italian ice cream. I would imagine it is really good. I've never had it before but I would like to try it.
August 20 - National Radio Day
August 20 is National Radio Day. I listen to the radio sometimes and the main reason I do is to catch the local news or to listen to new artists or new songs that have come out or listen to old songs that I have forgotten all about. I do like listening to different radio shows and I remember as a teen I used to listen to Scruff Connors in the morning. He was a deejay for one of the Toronto radio shows.
August 19 - Potato Day
August 19 is Potato Day. I know that I will definitely enjoy this day because I love potatoes. I love mashed potatoes, roasted potatoes, scalloped potatoes, fried potatoes and baked potatoes. However, the potato I love the absolute most is french fries. French fries are my absolute favourite.
August 18 - Bad Poetry Day
August 18 is Bad Poetry Day. I write some poetry and I really wouldn't consider it to be all that bad really but then I wouldn't consider to be really good, either. I have read a lot of other poetry too, again, some bad, some good. However, some people might like the poetry I consider bad because everyone has their own tastes.
A Poem I Wrote
- Halloween Stories- Ghosts Pure White
A poem about ghosts.
August 17 - National Thriftshop Day
August 17 is National Thriftshop Day. I know a lot of people like to shop at thrift shops but, personally I don't like thrift shops one bit. I think the one thing that turns me off thrift shops is the smell. Most thrift shops I have been in smell like mothballs. I cannot stand the smell of mothballs.
I know thrift shops do a valuable service in our community. Thrift shops take items that would normally go into our landfill and they fix them up and resell them. A lot of people do shop at thrift shops and a lot of people do actually enjoy it and I have no qualms with them at all. I just prefer to shop in stores where I can purchase new items.
August 16 - Bratwurst Festival
August 16 is Bratwurst Festival Day. Bratwurst is a type of German sausage. They are really good tasting sausages too. They aren't the little breakfast sausage, but the big thick ones. They would be so good on a barbecue and then on a toasted bun with fried onions and mustard. Oh, they would taste so good.
August 15 - National Relaxation Day and National Failures Day
August 15 is National Relaxation Day and National Failures Day. How can National Relaxation Day be on the same day as National Failures Day? This makes no sense to me whatsoever. How cam you relax when you are supposed to be also thinking of your failures. I know I can't do it. I have a hard enough time just relaxing on a normal day.
August 14 - National Creamsicle Day
August 14 is National Creamsicle Day. Creamsicles are so delicious and they are so nice to eat on a hot summer day. The only problem with creamsicles is that they are messy. Every time I have eaten one it has always found a way to drip on my shirt.
August 13 - Blame Someone Else Day
August 13 is Blame Someone Else Day. Wow!!! I love the idea of this day. This means I can virtually get away with anything because I can blame all my problems on someone else and these days, it seems I have an awful lot of problems. I am going to have so much fun on this day. For instance, if I forget to eat breakfast, I can blame my kitten, Arrow, because I had to stop and pet him for a half an hour and then I forgot to eat. If I forget to eat lunch, well, let me see, that I can blame on my friends cause they got me laughing so hard at something they said that I completely forgot to eat. Now, if I happen to forget to eat dinner, well that I will have to blame on myself, unfortunately, because I really shouldn't go a whole day without eating. Hmmmm, already found a flaw in this holiday so not so sure if I like it anymore.
August 12 - Middle Child's Day
August 12 is Middle Child's Day. I must say that I personally have no use for this day because I am the oldest child in my family. However, I am sure that my sister would appreciate this day because she is the middle child. I have a younger brother too. My brother and I used to tease my sister all the time, according to my sister. However, I don't remember any of that. I always remember my sister getting into trouble all the time. I'm sure she put up with a lot from my brother and I though so she can go ahead and enjoy this day all to herself.
August 11 - Presidential Joke Day
August 11 is Presidential Joke Day. Even though Obama is President of the United States, I'd be sure he has his funny side too. I'm sure he jokes around with friends and family. I'm sure he is not all work and no play. Everyone has their funny side, you do and I do too. We should see this day as not making fun of the President but having fun with the President.
August 10 - Lazy Day
August 10 is Lazy Day. I won't have a single issue with this day this year because I'm gonna be lazy on purpose on this day. I am not a lazy person by heart but, hey, if they are gonna make it a national holiday then guess what, I'm taking part in it.
August 9 - National Polka Festival
August 9 is National Polka Festival day. I think the organizers of this day have totally messed up because searching through google I couldn't find a single polka festival on this day. I did find the Ennis Polka Festival held in Texas but that one was held on memorial day weekend. I think it is a good idea to have national polka festivals but they should hold them on National Polka Festival Day.
August 8 - Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Night
August 8 is Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor's Porch Night. Now, this sounds like a fun night because I, for sure, do not like zucchini, so I wouldn't feel one bit guilty about putting some zucchini on my neighbours porch. However, it would be my luck that all my neighbours, which, by the way, I only have one neighbour, put their zucchini on my porch.
August 7 - Sea Serpent Day
August 7 is Sea Serpent Day. le serpent can come and get me all he wants on this national holiday because I will not be anywhere near a sea. le serpent will have to come ashore if he really wants to get at me. Now why a sea serpent would ever want to get me in the first place, I have no idea.
August 6 - Wiggle Your Toes Day
August 6 is Wiggle Your Toes Day. Now, this holiday I will get right on to and do it. I have major problems with my feet and they wiggle all by themselves all the time anyway. I have athlete's foot, restless leg syndrome and congenital chorea which affects my nerves. My feet are always wiggling.
August 5 - National Mustard Day
August 5 is National Mustard Day. Now, that is quite funny because just this past week I've been eating a lot of hot dogs because they have this excellent hot dog maker at work now and they are those big hot dogs not just those skinny ones. Anyway, the only thing I like on my hot dog is a teeny bit of mustard.
August 4 - Twins Day Festival
August 4 is Twins Day Festival. Now, this is a very fitting day for my family because my dad is a twin, my daughter-in-law is a twin and I have an almost twin cousin. My cousin and I were born in the same year but he is exactly one week older than me. I will definitely be celebration Twins Day Festival.
August 3 - National Watermelon Day
August 3 is National Watermelon Day. Now, for a lot of people I can understand why this would be a fun food to have on this day, however, I, myself, don't like watermelon. It is messy and drips everywhere and you constantly have to spit out the seeds.
August 2 - National Ice Cream Sandwich Day
August 2 is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day. Ice cream sandwiches are so good to eat, especially on a nice hot summer day. They are very cool and refreshing. One thing I don't like about them is that you do have to eat them fast or else they will start to melt and when an ice cream sandwich starts to melt it does messy.
August 1 - Friendship Day and National Raspberry Cream Pie Day
August 1 is Friendship Day. On friendship day it would be nice to take a friend out to lunch or just spend some quality time with a special friend. I went out for a nice drive with my best friend on Friendship Day.
August 1 is also National Raspberry Cream Pie Day. One of my best friends is allergic to raspberries so I wouldn't want to be eating a raspberry cream pie when she is around. I would wait until a time when I was by myself or with someone else to eat it. It does certainly sound delicious though.
