Chemicals are everywhere – in the food we eat, the water we drink, and in the air we breathe. So why add insult to injury by exposing your family to unnecessary chemicals in your home. Natural cleaning products such as vinegar, baking soda, and olive oil can clean your home just as effectively as commercial grade cleaning products – only they won’t expose your family to harmful chemicals. Here’s how to use natural cleaning products to clean the home.

Vinegar and Baking Soda

Vinegar and baking soda work wonders on grimy bath tubs, sinks, toilets. Just sprinkle a handful of baking soda evenly in the sink, and tub. Add the vinegar with a spray bottle. Let the baking soda and vinegar sit for two-minutes, and use a gentle scrub pad to scrub away dirt. Once you’re finished scrubbing, rinse the residue away with warm water. To tackle toilets, pour in ½ cup of baking soda, follow with one cup of vinegar, and then use a toilet brush to scrub away those yucky germs.

Vinegar and baking soda can also be used to unclog slow drains. Just pour a little baking soda down the drain, and follow it with a cup of white vinegar. Let the mixture work its magic for 10 to 15 minutes, and then run hot water down the drain.

Vinegar and Water

Grungy windows and mirrors are no match for the grease-cutting power of vinegar. Simply use a spray bottle to mix vinegar and water (half, and half), spritz the mixture on the glass, and use a clean paper towel to wipe it to a streak-free shine. You can also use the vinegar and water mixture to clean your kitchen, and bathroom countertops.

Bleach is not the only way to get those whites, white. Add a cup of white vinegar to your laundry, and watch those dingy clothes come to life.

Olive Oil

To use olive oil as a natural alternative to furniture polish, put a dab of olive oil on a soft, clean cloth, and wipe it across the wood furniture in your home. Olive oil adds amazing luster to your wood furniture pieces without leaving behind harmful chemical residue.

Using natural cleaning products such as baking soda, vinegar, and olive oil to clean your home can make your family’s immediate environment a safer place to live.

These are really good cleaning tips. I love to clean, as I stated in one of my hubs, by the same name. So when I see hubs like this, my antenna goes up. I've used baking soda for cleaning before, but not like this. And that olive oil tip is excellent. Thanks for sharing. Very good hub C. Stewart.
