We all have bad sleeps from time to time.  If you're finding that the bad sleeps are starting to out number the good sleeps, though, you probably have a bit of a problem on your hands.  Insomnia is an issue that millions of people across America consistently have to deal with.  This problem is very dynamic.  There are many different types and varieties of insomnia.  Because of this, it is often difficult to accurately diagnose just what is causing the sleeping disorder.  For men and women who suffer from mild transient insomnia, the causes are often little things.  It is quite easy to look past these obvious things, believing that you have a serious medical condition.

Anxiety and stress can often lead to poor sleeping patterns.  I think we've probably all been kept up worrying about bill payments or a relationship problem.   If this happens once in while, you really have nothing to worry about.  If it happens all the time though, this lack of sleep starts to take it's toll.  Stimulants are another common cause of mild insomnia.  In this fast paced world, people drink an awful lot of coffee.  And now the popularity of energy drinks like redbull are making a bad problem even worse!  If you're serious about changing your sleep patterns and ridding your life of insomnia, take a good look at your stimulant intake.  Something may need to change.

Natural Cures For Insomnia - The Downfalls Of Sleep Aid Medication

Now the easy way out of insomnia sleep disorder is to just find a pill that does it for you.  While this may seem like a great solution, it really isn't.  There are many negatives associated with both over the counter sleeping meds and ones prescribed by a doctor.

Over the counter sleep aids are readily available for anyone to buy.  This doesn't mean they are the safest way out of a sleep disorder though.  These drugs, such as Sominex, Nytol and Sleepinal are really just temporary fixes to a sleeping problem.  If you're suffering from something like jet lag, maybe these drugs will work for you.  One still needs to be careful though.  These drugs almost always cause drowsiness.  This is all well and good if you want to get to sleep.  The problem is, though, that the drowsy feeling often seeps into the following day.  You shouldn't be driving a car or operating heavy machinery if this side effect hits you.  Other common side effects of OTC sleeping pills include dry throat and constipation.

Prescription sleeping aids can be even more dangerous.  These products, like Lunesta and Sonata have the potential to be very addictive.  Some patients have a difficult time getting to sleep without them once their prescription is stopped.  In some cases, narcotic like symptoms of withdrawal are even experienced.

The Perfect Natural Cure For Insomnia

Now, sleep aid medication isn't without it's purpose.  I just believe that they should be used as a last resort.  It's important to note that a doctor should always be consulted before starting any new medication as well.  Just because something is available without a prescription, doesn't mean it's right for you.  As far as natural cures for insomnia are concerned, here are a few suggestions.

The first thing you should look into is what's known as "sleep hygiene".  Are your sleeping habits and environment clean and healthy?  Here are a few things to consider.  A regular sleeping pattern is crucial if you want to avoid insomnia.  Set your alarm for the same time every day and get up when it rings.  Try to go to bed at the same time as well.  Over time, your body will learn when it's time to sleep and when it's time to wake up.  You also want to make sure that the environment you're sleeping in is one that encourages rest.  Most people prefer cool temperatures to hot ones.  Try to eliminate all light and noise sources as well.  This should make it easier for you to sleep.  What you do during the day also contributes to how you sleep.  Pay close attention to your routine prior to bedtime.  Avoid eating and exercising during this time.  Some people have success through the use of relaxation methods as well.  You could try meditating or listening to some classical music in the moments leading up to your bed time.

Changing your diet is another natural way to cure insomnia.  Avoid things like alcohol and caffeine.  If you can't eliminate these things from your life completely, at least cut back a bit.  Caffeine, in particular, is bad for sleeping patterns.  Try replacing your coffee with a cup of green tea.  Beer and wine should also be drunk in moderation.  They dehydrate the body, making a restful sleep difficult.  Many people also feel the need to urinate in the middle of the night if they drink too much before bed.  Anything that causes you to wake up is bad if you're trying to get rid of insomnia.
