Are you interested in finding some natural remedies for GERD?  First of all lets go into a quick bit on what exactly GERD is.  If you have GERD, you are basically dealing with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease which is a serious condition, not to be taken lightly.  What can happen here is your esophagus can narrow due to scarring from the stomach acid, you may also develop cells similar to those found in stomach lining in your throat which can lead to cancer.

So now that you understand the severity of what you’re dealing with, we can move onto what you should be doing to combat this.  There are plenty of natural remedies for GERD out there on the Internet, so you’re definitely searching in the right place.

I’ve compiled some of the natural remedies for GERD that I’ve found to be the most useful, hopefully they will be of help to you too:

1.       Eat Slowly

When you eat slowly, you give your body more time to digest the food and prevent food from getting backlogged in your system and causing acid reflux.  This is more important to those people who suffer from this condition, you need to take extra care when at the table to prevent this burning sensation from rearing it’s ugly head.

Chew your food thoroughly and if you’re eating with others, talk to them more than you eat, you may be the last one to finish, but in the end your stomach will thank you for it.

2. Don’t Sleep On A Full Stomach

This is one of the best natural remedies for GERD, if you’ve had a large meal, do not go to sleep for at least another 3 hours. If you have a very large meal and you lie down, chances are your stomach will act up and you’ll feel like the food is coming back up and you’ll also get that familiar burning sensation. By waiting at least 3 hours, you give the food plenty of time to move down your digestive tract.

Now, it’s good to couple this with another great tip which is make a ramp of pillows for you to lay on. Basically, you want your upper torso to be elevated so that if your stomach acid wants to come up, it’s going to have to work against gravity, which is harder.

3. Ginger Root

Here’s one that’s been used for ages as a acid reflux cure, ginger root. Eating this is going to aid in digestion and also relieve heartburn you may currently be experiencing. You may even opt to brew a tea out of it if you’d rather not chew on it.

Now hopefully these natural remedies for GERD have been of help to you and will successfully combat your bouts with heartburn. If not, make sure you look around the Net for more cures as I’ve only scratched the surface.
