Blood Poisoning or Septicemia is a potentially life-threatening infection in which bacteria multiply rapidly in the bloodstream. The bacterial infection usually begins inside a poorly cleansed wound or an abscess where the bacterial growth cannot be contained by the immune system, thus the bacteria travel into the lymph vessels giving rise to a serious inflammation in the nodes; the red stripe characteristic of the condition then begin to appear as infection reaches a critical stage. People with reduced natural immunity are the most susceptible. This includes those who have diabetes mellitus, HIV, chemotherapy, the elderly and intravenous drug users are also more susceptible.

Symptoms:

  • Swelling, severe localized pain.
  • The condition usually begins with fever and chills. Drenching sweats may occur. The affected individual will feel very ill indeed with profound feelings of weakness.
  • As the condition evolves the person may begin to feel very cold and clammy. The blood pressure starts to fall and the person may lapse into unconsciousness.

Natural Remedies:

  • Keep the temperature in the room evenly warm, have enough air, and give a little cayenne in water when the patient feels chilly.
  • Apply two hot towel and then place a cold towel over the affected area. Continue this alternate application until the red lines disappear.
  • If there is a wound, wash it thoroughly with boric solution. If the discharge from the wound is thin, apply powdered 50-50 myrrh and goldenseal directly to the wound.

  • Go on a cleansing program of fresh fruits and vegetable juice. This is important to rebuild and strengthen the immune system.
  • Drink as many cups of Echinacea (immune system protector) tea a day as possible.
  • Take charcoal capsules, this can help absorbed the toxins released inside the body. Take two capsules every 30 - 60 minutes for acute blood poisoning.
  • Take vitamin C 1,000 - 2000 mg a day to boost the immune system.
  • B vitamins helps to boost liver function and to enable the rapid increase in the red blood cell. Take 100 mg thrice a day.
  • Take chlorophyll supplements (barley grass, wheatgrass, and blue-green algae) this helps in flushing out toxins from the system. These green food supplements will also help in restoring the blood levels.
  • Natural yogurt contains abundant amounts of acidophilus, thus yogurt can be used as a supplement to restore intestinal flora.
