Natural cure for sunburn
68Sunburn is a painful condition, especially for kids. Fortunately there are a few natural cures for sunburn, which will quickly alleviate your discomfort.
Natural cure for sunburn compresses
What you want to do is to mix up the cure then take a clean cloth, dip it in the mix and place that on the affected area.
Milk: Take a cup of skim milk and dilute it with 4 cups of water. Soak your cloth in the mix and apply for 15 minutes every 3 hours. The protean in the milk works wonders.
Oatmeal water: Put some oatmeal in gaze then run cool water through it. Collect the water in a bowl. Dip your cloth in the water and then place it on the burnt areas.
Witch hazel: Just soak the cloth in witch hazel then place on sunburn area.
Drink lots of water: This helps to counteract the drying sunburned skin.
Sunburn on your eyelids
Cut slices of raw cucumber, potato or apple. Lay back, close your eyes and then place them on your eyelids. This reduces pain as well as swelling.
Alternatively you can soak 2 teabags in cool water. Then apply them to your eyelids in the same manner.
Natural cure for sunburn blisters
I rarely see sunburn blisters. If you have them you have a serious case of sunburn. Drain them using a sterilized needle. You can sterilize the needle by holding it over a lit match. Puncture the blister at the base and press on it, from the top, to drain it. Don’t remove the skin as doing so can increase your risk of infection.
Take a cool bath: This works well especially if the area of sunburn is large. Spend some time in the bath and add more water if you need to adjust the temperature. After the bath don’t rub yourself down with a towel, pat rubbing can make things worse.
You can improve the curative effect of the bath by adding one cup of white vinegar to it.
You can also try adding a lot of Bicarbonate to the bath. Don’t towel off afterwards, instead let the water dry on your skin.
Burned legs and swollen feet: If you have swollen feet, elevate them. This will reduce the blood in your feet, which helps with the swelling.
Increase sensitivity to the sun
There are a number of drugs, cosmetics and soaps that can make you more sensitive to the sun. Examples are blood pressure drugs, oral contraceptives, diabetes drugs and antibiotics.
It takes up to six months for skin to completely heal, after sunburn. In this period your new skin is more prone to burning, so you need to be more careful. Also keep in mind that repeated sunburn can greatly increase your risk of skin cancer. So put on sunscreen and wear a hat, if you are going out in the sun. Remember that your risk of sunburn is the greatest between 11 and 3.
