Lavender oil bath for a Sunburn

Summer fun often bears the mark of sunburns, yet sunburns are no fun I have found that a cool bath with Lavender essential oil works better. I have used 10-20 drops in a full bath. Lavender absorbs quickly through the skin. Soak for at least 20 minutes for best absorption of the oil.

Another way to apply the essential oil in a bath is with Isopropyl Alcohol, or Rubbing Alcohol. When taking a bath with oils the oil will mostly stay on the water's surface. Climbing into the bath coats the skin with enough oil for full effect. I know some people who do not like the oily feel when the bath is done. The Isopropyl Alcohol wil help the oil disolve into the water. You get the same effects as if the Lavender oil was simply added to your bath. It takes only a teaspoon of Rubbing Alcohol for the 10-20 drops Lavender oil.

Lavender is a complex remedy and works on a number of skin conditions. The pure oil should be mixed with almond or olive oil before applying to skin. 5 drops per ounce of almond oil will do when blending. I have cleared up acne and healed kitchen burns with it.

These measurements are from a professional herbal consultant. If you have questions about any remedy, mine or others, consult a doctor or Master Herbalist. The experience I have had with this method has worked for me over ten years.
